Open the saved .html file in a desktop browser such as Firefox or Chrome. Save Page WE is designed to store the displayed page and captured resources in one HTML file, but reopening it cannot restore an image that was never saved. If images are absent, check what resources the save included and whether lazy-loaded or inaccessible content prevented capture.
Open the saved file
- Find the saved
.htmlfile. - Open it in Firefox or Chrome. You can use the browser’s Open File command or choose the browser from the file’s Open With menu.
Save Page WE says its output can be opened in any browser. Its documentation describes the page’s displayed HTML and referenced resources as saved together in one file, with binary resources such as images stored as data URIs. That is the intended format—not a guarantee that every resource on every website was captured. Source: Save Page WE documentation
Why images may be missing
- The image was not among the resources selected for saving.
- The image was lazy-loaded and had not loaded when the page was saved.
- The image or frame could not be accessed or saved. Save Page WE notes limitations for some cross-origin frames and resources.
- The file was saved using a different method or format that stores images separately—or omits them.
A page that opens successfully can still have incomplete resources. An image that was not captured is not recovered simply by opening the file again.
Check Save Page WE’s saved-resource information
- When available, use Save Page WE’s View Saved Page Info command.
- Review the resource summary and any warnings or lists of resources that could not be saved. The extension provides options for showing those notices.
- Check which item set was used. Basic, Standard, and Custom capture different resource categories.
What the item sets include

Choose a broader item set when the missing image type was not included in the original save. These options do not remove the documented limits: for example, scripts in cross-origin frames are never saved, and not all cross-origin frames can be captured. Save again if images load only as you scroll
Some pages defer loading images until they approach the visible area. Save Page WE documents options to load lazy content by scrolling or shrinking the page, as well as an option to load lazy images in existing content. Enable the relevant option, let the images load, and save the page again. A broader resource selection may also be needed if the images were not part of the currently displayed set.

When an image still will not appear
If one image remains absent after checking the item set and lazy-image settings, the source may not have been available to save, or it may be inside a cross-origin frame that could not be captured. The documentation describes these as possible limitations; without inspecting the particular saved file and page, it cannot establish which one caused a specific missing image.
