To keep Facebook from using mobile data on your iPhone, turn off its cellular-data access: open Settings > Cellular, find Facebook in the app list, and switch it off. Apple says that when cellular data is off for an app, iPhone uses Wi-Fi only for that service.
Turn off cellular data for Facebook

Open the iPhone’s Settings app.

Scroll to the app list and find Facebook.

Turn off the switch beside Facebook. Keep Wi-Fi enabled and connect to a Wi-Fi network to use Facebook.

Apple’s iPhone User Guide explains that disabling cellular data for an app makes iPhone use Wi-Fi only for that service.

What happens when Facebook’s switch is off?
The switch blocks Facebook’s cellular-data access; it does not turn off Facebook over Wi-Fi or change the cellular-data permissions of other apps. If Wi-Fi is unavailable, Facebook will not have internet access through cellular data with this setting in place.
Check Facebook’s cellular-data use
Go to Settings > Cellular and look beneath Facebook in the app list to see the cellular usage displayed there. For the most accurate total for your current billing period, check with your carrier, as Apple notes that carrier records can be more accurate for current-period usage.

Should you check Wi-Fi Assist?
Apple says Wi-Fi Assist is on by default and may use cellular data when Wi-Fi connectivity is poor. If your broader goal is to reduce cellular use, review the Wi-Fi Assist setting as well; Apple discusses it in Use cellular data on your iPhone or iPad. Apple’s guidance does not establish whether Wi-Fi Assist overrides Facebook’s app-specific cellular-data switch, so the Facebook switch remains the direct control for that app.
