Use Samsung’s My Files app to copy or move photos from an inserted SD card to your Galaxy’s internal storage. For the safest transfer, choose Copy first, confirm the photos open from the phone, and only then delete the card’s originals if you want to free space. The steps below apply only to Galaxy models that support a microSD card.
Copy or move the photos with My Files
-
Open My Files on your Galaxy. It may be inside the Samsung folder. Tap SD card.
-
Open the folder containing the photos, often DCIM or Pictures. Touch and hold a photo to select it, then tap any other photos you want to transfer.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Tap Copy or Move. Choose Copy if you want to keep the card originals while you check the transfer. Samsung explains that copying leaves the original in place, whereas moving removes it from its original location after transferring it. Samsung’s My Files guidance describes both options.

If you cannot find the SD card in My Files
The SD card option appears only if a card is inserted and the Galaxy supports one. MicroSD support varies by model; some Galaxy phones do not have a card slot. Check your exact model’s specifications before looking for a slot or buying an adapter. Samsung also states that “Samsung Android devices do not support the Adoptable storage feature,” so an SD card is not treated as expanded internal storage by that feature. Samsung Support explains its storage options.

If it still does not appear, test it in another compatible device to help determine whether the issue is the card or the phone. Samsung’s microSD troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the card and trying it in another device.

Why My Files is preferable to Gallery for this transfer
Gallery’s Move to album and Copy to album features organize photos into albums, but album organization is not the same as choosing a physical storage location. For a clear SD-card-to-internal-storage transfer, use My Files and select SD card as the source and Internal storage as the destination. Gallery controls vary by version. Samsung describes its Gallery album options separately from My Files storage transfers: Samsung Gallery and file-management guidance.
Other ways to access the card
If your Galaxy has no microSD slot, or My Files cannot access the card through the phone, Samsung also describes connecting external storage with USB OTG or transferring files through a PC. These routes depend on what equipment you have: OTG may require a compatible adapter, card reader, or connector, while PC transfer requires a computer and a suitable way to read the card. Check phone compatibility and connector type before buying an accessory. Samsung’s file-transfer guidance covers these alternatives.
If a particular item will not transfer, note that Samsung says some encrypted or purchased content cannot be moved to external storage. That restriction is generally unrelated to ordinary camera photos; check the specific file if it is the one causing trouble. Samsung’s My Files guidance explains this limitation.
