For a large video, connect your unlocked Android phone to the Windows PC with a data-capable USB cable, select File Transfer on the phone, and copy the video to a folder on the PC. It is a direct local copy, so you do not have to upload the file to cloud storage and download it again. If you have no suitable cable, Quick Share is the main wireless alternative.

Transfer the video over USB

  1. Unlock the Android phone and connect it to the Windows PC with a USB cable that supports data transfer.
  2. On the phone, tap the notification indicating that it is charging via USB.
  3. Under Use USB for, select File Transfer.
  4. In the file-transfer window on Windows, find the video. A camera recording is often in the phone’s DCIM folder. Copy it to a clearly named folder on the PC’s local drive.
  5. Wait for the copy to finish, eject the phone from Windows, and then unplug it.

Do not disconnect the phone while the copy is in progress. There is no reliable universal transfer-time estimate: the file size, phone, cable, USB port and computer all affect how long it takes.

If Windows does not show the phone

  • Check that the phone is unlocked and that File Transfer, rather than charging only, is selected.
  • Try another cable. Google notes: “Not all USB cables can transfer files.” Some cables charge a phone but do not carry data.
  • Try another USB port or, if available, another computer to narrow down whether the issue is the cable, port or phone connection.

Choose a cable that supports data and has connectors that fit both the phone and PC. USB-C connectors do not all guarantee the same data capability or speed.

Send it wirelessly with Quick Share

Quick Share avoids plugging in the phone, but compatibility and wireless conditions matter. Android 6 or later includes Quick Share. Google’s Quick Share app for Windows requires a 64-bit Windows 10-or-later desktop or laptop; ARM-based PCs need Windows 11 or later.

Sandisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD, Up to 1050MB/s, USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2, IP65 Water and Dust Resistance, Updated Firmware, External Solid State Drive, SDSSDE61-2T00-G25
  • Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
  • Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
  • Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
  • Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
  • Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
  1. On the Windows PC, install the appropriate Quick Share app and turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  2. On the Android phone, select the video and choose Quick Share from the share options.
  3. Keep the devices nearby and discoverable. Google recommends a distance within 5 metres.
  4. Select the PC on the phone, then accept the incoming transfer on the PC.

Google says Quick Share transfers are end-to-end encrypted. The app choice depends on the computer: Google’s Windows app is for non-Samsung PCs. For a Samsung PC, Google directs users to install Samsung’s Quick Share app from Microsoft Store; Google’s app is no longer supported on Samsung PCs. Wireless transfer speed and completion depend on the devices and radio conditions, so do not assume it will be faster than USB for a large file.

How the transfer options compare

Method What you need Best for Limitation
USB cable Unlocked phone and data-capable cable A direct local copy, especially when moving a large file A charge-only cable or USB connection problem can prevent detection
Quick Share Compatible Windows PC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and nearby discoverable devices Wireless transfers between compatible devices App compatibility varies; Samsung PCs should use Samsung’s app
Phone Link Supported Android device and current Phone Link and Link to Windows software An integrated Windows workflow for supported devices Documented drag-and-drop support is device-limited and caps an individual file at 512 MB
Google Drive Google Account and internet access When the phone and PC are not together Requires uploading from the phone and downloading to the PC, using internet data and time

When Phone Link or Google Drive makes sense

Phone Link

Microsoft documents file exchange through Phone Link, but its drag-and-drop feature is limited to selected Android manufacturers, supports up to 100 files at a time, and does not transfer a single file larger than 512 MB. That makes it unsuitable for a video above that per-file limit. Microsoft also documents Android-to-PC sharing through the share drawer; received files appear in DownloadsPhone Link. Requirements vary with the current Phone Link and Link to Windows versions, so check that the feature is available on your devices before relying on it.

  • From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.

Google Drive

Drive can bridge the gap if the phone and computer are in different places or direct transfer methods are unavailable: upload the video from the phone, then download it on the PC. For a large file, that means a full internet upload followed by a download and may use substantial data. No India-specific transfer speed or price is established here, so check your connection and account terms rather than assuming a particular completion time.

Use the copied video in OBS or upload it to YouTube

Play it inside an OBS scene

If you want a prerecorded clip to play during a live OBS stream, use the local copy; uploading it to YouTube first is not necessary. In OBS, add a Media Source and point it to the video file. OBS lists these Media Source formats: .mp4, .ts, .mov, .flv, .mkv, .avi, .gif and .webm.

For a playlist, OBS documents a VLC Video source. VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires a 64-bit VLC build. If OBS cannot play the copied file, check that the format is supported and that the required VLC installation is present for a VLC Video source.

Upload a normal video through YouTube Studio

Uploading is a separate workflow from transferring a file to the PC or playing it locally in OBS. On the computer, sign in to YouTube Studio, choose Create, then Upload videos, and select the local file. The file is imported during upload; publishing is the step that makes the video available to viewers. HD or 4K processing time can vary with quality, duration, format and traffic.

YouTube’s recommended upload encoding guide lists MP4, H.264 video, and audio codecs including AAC-LC or Opus, and recommends uploading at the frame rate at which the content was recorded. The detailed recommendations on that guide are identified as available only to YouTube Studio Content Manager partners, so they should not be treated as a mandatory consumer preset. Avoid transcoding just to transfer a file; it adds work and may reduce quality.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep prerecorded videos running as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, the PC does not have to stay on. StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.
