To get bees into a crafted beehive in Minecraft, lure nearby bees with a flower, guide them with leads, or move their occupied bee nest with Silk Touch. For a long move, relocating the occupied nest is often the simplest approach when you have the required tool.
Choose how you want to move the bees

Attract bees with a flower
- Find bees near a natural bee nest.
- Hold a flower. Bees follow a player holding a flower of any kind, according to Minecraft’s official Bee article.
- Walk toward the crafted beehive, then leave flowers near it so the bees have a reason to stay in the area.
Keep the hive close enough for the bees to find as you guide them. This method moves the bees, not their original nest.
Guide bees with a lead
Attach leads to bees and guide them to the area where you placed the beehive. The Minecraft Wiki says bees can be leashed even when angered. This still requires guiding the bees to the destination; it does not move their nest with them. See the Minecraft Wiki’s bee entry.

- Wait for the bees to return to their natural nest. Night is a recommended time; bees also commonly return in rain.
- Break the occupied nest using a tool enchanted with Silk Touch.
- Place the nest near the crafted beehive or at the location where you want the bees to live. Bees stored inside can leave the placed block.
Minecraft’s official Bee article recommends relocating a nest at night with a silk-touch tool. This carries the occupied nest as a block rather than transferring its bees into the crafted beehive. The nest itself can serve as their home at the new location.

Keep the bees calm while handling a nest
Place a campfire underneath a nest or hive to calm bees with smoke. Smoke can make interaction safer, but it does not replace Silk Touch: breaking an occupied nest without Silk Touch releases the bees and can anger them. For official guidance, see Minecraft’s Bee article and its snapshot notes.

A bee nest generates naturally; a beehive is crafted and can be used as a destination for bees. The Minecraft Wiki’s honey-farming tutorial describes a beehive as functionally identical to a bee nest for keeping bees. The official snapshot notes mention Flower Forests, Plains, and Sunflower Plains as bee-nest biomes for Java Edition, but that historical, edition-specific list is not a guarantee for every current version or edition.
