Use the White House News index as your broad dashboard, then add an official alert route that fits your routine. For executive orders, check both the White House index and the Federal Register’s executive orders index. Alerts are useful prompts, but the official pages—not an alert alone—are where to verify what was announced and what document was issued.

Start with the White House News index

The White House News page is the broadest official starting point for monitoring announcements. Its categories distinguish releases, briefings and statements, presidential actions, executive orders, nominations and appointments, presidential memoranda, proclamations, fact sheets, remarks, and research. Listings are dated and the page is paginated, so you can review recent material and move back through older entries.

For a broad view, check the main index periodically rather than relying only on one category. A narrow category can make a monitoring routine easier to manage, but it can also leave out related material filed under a different document type. The index displayed entries dated through October 2, 2026 when reviewed; because it changes, check the live page for current listings.

Choose how you want to receive notices

The White House News page advertises email updates, text alerts, its app, a browser extension, and desktop notifications. Choose based on where you want notices to appear and how much interruption you are comfortable with. The reviewed material does not specify how often alerts arrive, whether you can filter them by topic, or whether every item appears in every channel. Treat a notice as a reason to check the source page, not as a guarantee of instant or complete coverage.

  1. Open the White House News page.
  2. Select an advertised route—email, text, app, browser extension, or desktop notifications—and follow the official setup link or app-store link shown there.
  3. Periodically compare notices with the News index to see what has appeared on the site and whether your chosen route suits your needs.

Follow statements and briefings separately when needed

If your focus is official statements or briefings, use the Briefings & Statements index. It provides a direct view of that material alongside broader category navigation. It displayed entries dated through October 2, 2026 when reviewed. For wider monitoring, continue checking the News index so material filed outside this category does not escape your view.

Verify executive orders against the formal record

For an executive order, compare the White House’s dedicated Executive Orders index with the Federal Register Executive Orders index. The White House page helps locate the administration’s listed actions; the Federal Register provides a separate index of presidential documents. When the formal document matters, identify the specific record and its publication context rather than relying on a headline or summary.

Keep document types distinct. A press release or fact sheet may explain an action, but it is not itself the formal order. Before describing a policy’s legal status or effective date, check the underlying document and relevant official record; do not infer either from a summary headline.

Keep a usable monitoring record

A lightweight log helps you spot changes without treating every announcement as a policy change. For each item you may need to revisit, record:

  • Title and source link.
  • The date displayed on the item and, for formal documents, its publication context.
  • Category or document type, such as briefing, fact sheet, memorandum, proclamation, or executive order.
  • The specific policy or wording you are tracking, plus what changed compared with the prior record.

A notes app or spreadsheet is sufficient if you need a record. Before publishing or relying on a summary, reopen the current official item and confirm its title, date, text, and any stated effect.

Common monitoring mistakes

  • Relying on one alert channel: the published information does not establish that channels have identical timing or coverage. Cross-check the site index.
  • Watching only one category: related materials can appear under different document types. Revisit the broad News index as well.
  • Treating an explainer as the formal action: open the underlying document and check the Federal Register index when an executive order is central.
  • Assuming a headline establishes legal effect: verify the current official record and the document’s own terms before stating an effective date or legal status.
