To monitor rebates, check the retailer’s official offers page or app, enable the email or push alerts it actually provides, and keep reviewing the offer terms. An alert about a new offer is different from an email asking you to claim a rebate after purchase—and a retailer may change program terms without promising to notify you.
Set up rebate monitoring at the retailer
- Sign in to the relevant retailer account. Open its offers, coupons, or rebates section. Check the qualifying product, location, purchase or fulfillment requirements, activation steps, and expiration date before relying on an offer. For example, Walgreens lists manufacturer rebates on product pages, its coupons page, and the Shop & Save area of its app; you must be signed in to clip an offer. Walgreens Promotions Help
- Turn on the available alerts. Choose email or push notifications if the retailer offers them, then confirm that notifications are also allowed in your phone’s operating-system settings. - Keep your account email current. Check that the retailer has the address you use and that its messages are not being filtered into spam or junk. Target sends its described digital manufacturer rebate email to the address on the Target.com account; Walgreens sends claim instructions to the communications address on the myWalgreens profile. - Check the account’s offer area periodically. Alerts are useful, but do not assume every new offer or terms change will trigger a message. - Keep proof and deadlines until payment. Save the offer details, purchase confirmation, any claim email, and the claim deadline. This gives you the information needed to check eligibility or follow up if a rebate has not arrived.
Understand what each notification means
New-offer alerts
A new-offer alert tells you that an offer may be available. It does not necessarily mean it is active on your account or that your purchase qualifies. You may still need to sign in, clip or activate the offer, and verify the product, location, quantity, and fulfillment conditions.

Post-purchase rebate emails
A purchase does not always complete the rebate process. Some programs send a separate message with claim instructions after a qualifying purchase. Walgreens says its digital rebate email may take up to 24 hours to arrive and that a claim typically must be completed within 30 days of receiving it. Program or terms changes
Do not treat an alert preference as a guarantee that the retailer will directly notify you about every change. Ace Rewards’ terms, for example, say Ace may notify members about modifications but is not obligated to do so, and advise members to check the terms periodically. How to evaluate a rebate alert system
Before relying on a retailer’s notification setup, check these points:
- Channel: Does it use push, email, or only an account page?
- Opt-in and activation: Must you enable alerts, sign in, clip an offer, or add it to a list?
- Eligibility: Which product, location, quantity, and fulfillment method qualify?
- Alert purpose: Is the notice for a newly available offer or a post-purchase claim?
- Timing: How long can the claim email take, and when does the claim window close?
- Change notices: Does the program commit to sending notice of terms changes, or should you check the terms yourself?
Government home-efficiency rebate alerts
Government rebate workflows can differ from retail loyalty offers. The U.S. Department of Energy’s 2024 sample guidance describes state tracking workflows with multiple notifications to homeowners and building owners about rebate levels available and applied, as well as rebate amounts itemized in invoices. Troubleshoot missing or unexpected rebate notifications
Push alerts are not arriving
- Check the retailer’s in-app notification preference.
- Check the operating system’s notification permission for that app; enabling only one of these may not be enough.
- Look in the retailer account’s Offers section in case the alert was missed.
A claim email has not arrived
- Confirm the email address saved to the retailer account.
- Search spam and junk folders, and check any inbox rules.
- Review the retailer’s stated delivery timing. Walgreens says its digital rebate email may take up to 24 hours; that timing is Walgreens-specific, not universal.
- Recheck the offer’s eligibility and claim instructions before assuming the purchase qualified.
The offer appears, but the purchase does not qualify
Compare the exact product, quantity, location, fulfillment method, substitutions, and coupon use against the offer terms. A listed offer is not proof that a purchase qualifies, and an alert does not replace any required clipping or activation step.
