Use Browserless to capture each product page on a schedule, save the image with its capture context, and compare it only with another valid capture. A screenshot records what rendered for one URL, viewport, locale, browser state, product variant, and delivery context; it does not prove that every shopper could get that price. Pair visual comparison with extraction of the displayed price, currency, availability, and promotion text, and reject CAPTCHA, blank, or access-denied captures as inconclusive rather than treating them as price changes.
Plan the monitor around the offer you need to track
Before calling the screenshot endpoint, make a record for each product page. Price can depend on more than the page URL: selected variant, account state, delivery location, delivery option, coupon eligibility, and other page context can affect what is shown.
- Product identity: marketplace, product-page URL, and a stable internal identifier.
- Capture context: timestamp, requested URL, viewport, locale, browser state, selected variant, and delivery context where relevant.
- Evidence: the screenshot plus extracted price, currency, stock or availability, and promotion text.
- Outcome: valid capture, or a failure/inconclusive status such as blank page, CAPTCHA, access denied, missing price element, or timeout.
A saved image is evidence of that particular rendering. It is not evidence that the displayed offer was universally available or would apply to another shopper.
Capture pages with Browserless
Browserless documents a REST screenshot endpoint that accepts a URL or raw HTML and returns an image. Its screenshot controls include image format, full-page capture, selector or clipped-region capture, waits, and navigation controls. Choose capture scope and timing
- Full page: useful when the price or offer information may appear below the initial viewport. Full-page capture does not guarantee that lazy-loaded content has been rendered.
- Price element or clipped region: narrows comparisons to the product offer area, reducing visual noise from unrelated page regions. A selector must match the page’s current markup; if it no longer matches, classify the capture as invalid rather than reporting a price change.
- Waits and navigation: use the documented waits or navigation controls to allow the page to render. The appropriate wait varies by site and should be validated against the pages being monitored.
- Lazy-loaded content: Browserless guidance recommends scrolling the page before capture and combining scrolling with full-page capture where appropriate.
Some product pages depend on JavaScript. FTA Global’s 2026 study reports that a simple agent could not see some prices in server HTML and says it fully tested 24 product pages. That is a limited sample, not a representative estimate for all Indian ecommerce pages; it does, however, illustrate why a rendered-browser capture can be useful where raw page HTML is insufficient. Build a reliable comparison and alert workflow
- Capture on a consistent schedule. Keep the viewport, locale, browser state, URL, and relevant offer context consistent between runs. Store the requested URL and timestamp with every image.
- Validate the page before comparing it. Check that the page rendered and that the expected product and price region are present. Browserless identifies blank or white captures, CAPTCHA pages, access-denied or 403 pages, and missing elements as signs that automation may be blocked. Mark those captures failed or inconclusive, not as price changes. The Browserless Screenshot API documentation discusses these capture issues.
- Extract offer fields as well as saving the image. Record displayed price, currency, stock or availability, and promotion text. - Compare against the previous valid capture. A visual-difference tool can identify changed regions, but a changed pixel area alone is not proof of a price change. Layout changes, banners, personalization, and loading artifacts can also produce differences.
- Alert only on a verified offer change. Treat an extraction that disagrees with the visible price as a review case. Preserve the screenshot so a person can inspect the context before acting on a material change.
Interpret screenshots carefully
A screenshot answers “what did this browser render under these conditions?” It cannot establish that all shoppers saw the same price, or that the offer applied under a different account, location, delivery selection, coupon, product variant, or eligibility condition. Keep those qualifications in the record and avoid describing a captured price as a universal marketplace price.

Check access rules before scheduling captures
Browserless documentation describes technical capability; it does not grant permission to automate access to a marketplace. The available evidence does not establish current scraping permissions or API provisions for Amazon India, Flipkart, or other named marketplaces. Before deploying a monitor, review each platform’s current terms, official APIs, relevant robots guidance, and access restrictions. The Government of India’s PIB reported on 10 September 2026 that amendments to the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 were to take effect on 1 January 2027, including a requirement that an announced price reduction display both reduced and prior prices. That is a prospective rule change as reported on that date, not a complete legal analysis of third-party monitoring; consult the operative rules and platform terms. See the PIB release.

Troubleshoot inconclusive captures
- Blank or white screenshot: the page may not have finished rendering, navigation may have failed, or the site may be blocking automation. Do not compare it as a valid state; inspect the capture and adjust documented waits or navigation settings before retrying.
- CAPTCHA, 403, or access-denied page: record a blocked/inconclusive result. Do not interpret the error page as a product or price change. Review whether automated access is permitted rather than trying to evade the site’s controls.
- Price is missing from the image: the content may be lazy-loaded or dependent on JavaScript, variant selection, or delivery context. Try a documented wait and scroll-before-capture workflow, and verify that the expected product state is selected.
- Selector capture returns the wrong region or no price: the page markup may have changed or the selector may identify a different element. Revalidate the selector against the rendered page and mark the run invalid until the price region is confirmed.
- Visual diff fires but extracted price is unchanged: inspect changed regions for banners, layout shifts, personalization, or loading artifacts. Do not alert on pixel differences alone.
- Extracted value conflicts with visible text: retain the image and mark the observation for review. Do not silently choose one value or issue an automated price alert until the discrepancy is resolved.
