To monitor a competitor’s website with Make and Google Sheets, schedule an HTTP request to fetch a public page, extract a specific value such as a price or availability label, compare it with the last observation, and append a row when that value changes. Make’s Google Sheets Watch Changes module does not monitor websites; it watches certain edits made by a user in the Sheets app.
Build a scheduled website-change monitor
Start with a small set of public URLs and one or two fields that matter to your decision. A focused monitor is less likely to produce noisy alerts than a raw comparison of every HTML change.
1. Choose what to track
For each page, define a stable comparison target: for example, a displayed price, plan name, availability label, product headline, or announcement heading. Record the URL and field name alongside each observation so a change remains understandable later.

2. Fetch the page on a schedule
In Make, create a scenario with the HTTP > Make a request module. Make describes this module as able to call an API, download a webpage, or trigger a webhook. Where a public API exposes the field you need, it may provide a more stable response than a rendered page. See Make’s HTTP integration.

Configure the request for the page or API you are allowed to access. The response is input to your scenario; Make’s HTTP module does not automatically understand which parts of arbitrary pages are meaningful or guarantee universal website-change detection.
3. Extract and compare a stable value
Map the response to the field you chose, then compare that value with the previous observation for the same URL and field. Design storage so the scenario can retrieve the last value before writing the next one; for a small setup, a separate state table or a carefully structured sheet can serve this purpose. Treat the first observation as a baseline rather than a change.
Keep extraction resilient to harmless layout changes where possible. If the relevant content is absent, the response is an error page, or extraction fails, record or route that as a failed check rather than interpreting it as a real price or content change.

4. Append a change row in Google Sheets
When the extracted value differs from the previous one, use a Google Sheets row-append module and include enough context to audit the change later:
- Check timestamp
- Page URL
- Field name
- Previous value
- New value
- Short change note or status
Keep a baseline observation for the first successful check. You can also route changed records to email or chat, but retain the before-and-after values in the sheet so the alert is not the only record.
Do not confuse a Sheets edit trigger with website monitoring
Make’s Google Sheets > Watch Changes module monitors changes made by a user in the Google Sheets app. Make’s documentation says it does not trigger for changes made by scripts or API requests, and it does not watch newly added rows. It does not detect competitor-site changes, nor changes to a site’s scripts or APIs. See Make’s Google Sheets modules documentation.

If your separate goal is to start a scenario when a person edits a configuration sheet, Make documents a setup using the Sheets add-on or a script and webhook. That is a different workflow from scheduled website polling; see Make’s instructions for Google Sheets modules.

Compare these routes by whether the needed data is exposed, extraction stability, acceptable alert delay, expected Make credit use, and tolerance for missed or noisy changes. Scheduled polling is not instant detection.
Set a realistic schedule and estimate consumption
Choose the least frequent interval that still supports the decision you are making. Make’s pricing page, checked October 3, 2026, lists a 15-minute minimum scheduled interval on Free and a one-minute minimum on Core, Pro, and Teams; plans and limits can change, so verify the current Make pricing page before relying on those terms. The same page lists Free with up to 1,000 credits per month and Core with a one-minute minimum.

Make’s scheduling guide gives trigger-only examples: a five-minute schedule is 288 credits per day or 8,640 per month; hourly is 24 per day or 720 per month; once daily is 30 per month. These are scheduling examples, not a total workflow estimate: other module actions and processed data can add consumption. See Make’s scenario scheduling guide.
Check execution history when a run fails or uses more credits than expected. A page may block automated access or change its structure, and the sources cited here do not establish what any particular competitor permits.
India-specific considerations

Respect site restrictions and seek India-specific legal advice where your planned monitoring or collected data raises compliance questions.

Can Make alert me as soon as a competitor changes a page?
No. A scheduled scenario checks at its next run, so the actual delay depends on the schedule and whether the request and extraction succeed.
Can Google Sheets Watch Changes monitor new rows or edits made by an API?
No. Make documents that the module watches user edits made in the Google Sheets app; it does not watch added rows or edits made by scripts and API requests.
