Use a website change monitor on the university’s official admissions notices page, select the notices area if possible, and set checks more frequently as deadlines or counselling rounds approach. Treat every alert as a prompt to verify the live page and its linked notice or PDF—not as an official communication or proof that a deadline has changed.
What admissions updates should you watch?
Admissions pages can change many times after applications open. For example, Banaras Hindu University’s official portal has listed round schedules, allotment and fee-payment updates, vacant-seat information, correction windows, registration guides, reporting instructions and bulletins. Its dates and notices can change, so use the live portal rather than an old screenshot or saved copy for current details: BHU admissions portal.
Choose terms that match the programme and stage you care about. Start broad enough to catch new notice titles, then narrow the criteria if routine page changes produce noise.

Set up a monitor for the right page and region
- Find the official URL. Start from the university’s official site and identify the admissions portal for your programme. If UG, PG, doctoral or professional admissions use separate pages, monitor each relevant page; do not assume the main university homepage covers them all.
- Save a baseline. Open the notices or announcements page and note how the relevant information is presented. A visual monitor compares later checks with an earlier page state.
- Select the notices area. If the service supports region selection, monitor the list of notices rather than the entire page. This can reduce alerts from changing banners, counters and unrelated content. Visualping documents whole-page and specific-element monitoring; Distill’s Chrome extension guide describes selecting part of a page.
- Set useful change criteria. Include terms such as “registration,” “last date,” “extension,” “correction,” “schedule,” “allotment,” “vacant seats,” “reporting,” and the programme name or admission year. Where available, choose whether to be alerted for any change or only changes that meet your criteria.
- Choose a check schedule. Check more often near a deadline or counselling round and less often outside active periods. Checks run according to the service’s schedule, so an alert is not guaranteed to arrive immediately after a university publishes a change. The available intervals may depend on the service and plan.
- Test the monitor and notification route. Confirm that the selected area includes the notice list and that alerts reach the email or other channel you intend to use. If a known update is available, check that it appears in the comparison.
- Recheck coverage periodically. Universities may move notices, add a separate portal or change page layout. Update the monitored URL or selected region when that happens. Also use any official candidate portal, email or SMS channel the institution provides.
How to review an alert safely
- Open the university’s live admissions page yourself rather than relying only on the alert image or email.
- Open the original notice or PDF linked from the page.
- Check the notice date, programme, admission round and deadline against your own application details.
- Follow the instructions on the official page or notice. A monitoring service can miss or misread a page, and a change alert does not establish that information is current, authoritative or complete.
Do not use a monitor’s screenshot as a substitute for the original notice. Save or record the official document only if that is useful for your application records.

Which monitoring approach fits?
Visualping and Distill are documented examples, not independently tested recommendations for every Indian university portal. Check each service’s current documentation before relying on a particular interval, notification method or page capability.
| Approach | What the documentation describes | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Visualping | Whole-page or specific-element monitoring, visual/text/code change detection, scheduled checks, email alerts by default, and before-and-after comparisons. Its cloud monitors continue when your computer is off. | Its setup guide covers alert criteria and check frequency. These are vendor-described features, not proof of accuracy on a particular university site. |
| Distill Chrome extension | Selecting part of a page, choosing the device used for checks and setting a schedule. | Alert methods depend on subscription plan; verify current plan limits and whether local monitoring requires the browser to remain open. |
Before choosing a service, verify region selection, support for relevant documents such as PDFs, check interval and quota, notification channels, handling of dynamic pages or interactions, whether checks continue when your computer is off, and cost and data handling. The cited product documentation establishes only some of these details; do not assume every service can monitor a page behind a login, a dynamic portal or a document link.

For a one-off screenshot or a scripted capture of the live admissions page, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It is not a scheduled change-monitoring service, so use a monitor for recurring alerts and use a capture when you need a page image or PDF.
One GET request returns an image; save the response as a file. Replace the URL with the university’s public admissions page and use an API key from your account. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for options and response details.

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response indicates the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, get page information and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

What a visual monitor cannot tell you
A visual comparison can help you notice visible changes; it cannot validate the full admissions process, establish that a page is accessible, or determine whether the institution’s instructions apply to your case. UGC says an effective accessibility mechanism should support persons with disabilities from admission through course completion. Its statement about its own website’s compliance with GIGW and WCAG 2.0 Level A is not a claim about every university portal: UGC.
IIT Jodhpur’s web policy is an example of institutional guidance that discusses review dates, details for downloadable materials, browser testing, regional-language fonts and consistent identity: IIT Jodhpur. Such guidance does not establish that every Indian university follows the same practices. A monitor should supplement, not replace, official applicant communications and accessible ways to obtain admissions information.

Troubleshooting missed or noisy alerts
- No alerts arrive: Check the monitor’s status, notification settings and spam folder. Confirm the monitored URL still loads and that the service is checking the page at the interval you selected.
- The alert shows only a banner or counter change: Narrow the monitored region to the notices list or refine the change criteria. Avoid excluding too much content, or a new notice title may be missed.
- The notice list is missing from the comparison: Re-select the region and confirm it is visible after the page finishes loading. If the site uses dynamic content, popups or rotating banners, test a different region or monitor the relevant admissions page directly.
- The monitored page appears unchanged but a notice exists: Check the live portal and programme-specific pages manually. The notice may be on a separate URL, in a linked PDF, or in a portal section outside the monitored region.
- The URL no longer works: Navigate from the university’s official homepage to the current admissions page, then replace the old URL and reselect the notices area.
- Alerts arrive too late for a deadline: Increase the check frequency if the service and plan allow it, and keep checking official candidate channels. Scheduled monitoring is not instant notification.
India-specific context: check the official channel too
Some admissions systems provide candidate notifications or online updates in addition to public pages. A 2020 NIC article described real-time communication in the context of its e-counselling and admission services; it is a historical example of a specific service, not evidence that every university sends real-time alerts. Check the channels named by your own institution, including any candidate portal, email or SMS instructions.
