To monitor company social media accounts for unauthorized posts, restrict publishing access to named, authorized users; require multifactor authentication (MFA); enable available access logs and alerts; review users and connected apps on a schedule; and have a written response plan. Controls differ by platform, so document what each account records and assign an owner to check it.
1. Inventory every account and publishing route
Start with a list of all official social profiles. For each one, record who can publish or administer it, which agencies or other vendors have access, what management services are connected, and which email or identity accounts can be used to recover it.
Where available, use the platform’s organization or business-account features to give named people distinct roles. Avoid shared credentials: individual access makes it easier to identify who has permission and remove access when someone changes roles or leaves. CISA recommends limiting employee access, using individual credentials through corporate-account features where possible, and reviewing authorized users. CISA’s Social Media Account Protection guide

2. Secure administrator access
Require MFA for administrators, and protect the email and identity accounts linked to each social profile. Keep personal social profiles separate from company administration where the platform allows it. CISA recommends strong MFA for administrators and notes that a security-key requirement can add protection to linked email accounts. A hardware security key is one option, but check that the social platform and identity provider support the specific key and sign-in method you choose. CISA’s MFA and account-security guidance
3. Enable logs and review alerts
Turn on account-access logging wherever the service offers it. Check available sign-in and administrative alerts for unfamiliar logons, permission changes, new or removed users, unexpected publishing, and other unusual activity. CISA advises organizations to “Monitor alerts for unauthorized logons, logoffs, permission changes, additions, deletions, or any unusual activity.” CISA’s monitoring recommendations

- Create a mix using audio, music and voice tracks and recordings.
- Customize your tracks with amazing effects and helpful editing tools.
- Use tools like the Beat Maker and Midi Creator.
- Work efficiently by using Bookmarks and tools like Effect Chain, which allow you to apply multiple effects at a time
- Use one of the many other NCH multimedia applications that are integrated with MixPad.
Do not assume that every platform captures the same events or keeps logs for the same length of time. Record which events each service makes visible, how an authorized reviewer can access them, and whether records can be exported. Assign a person to review the alerts and logs rather than relying on them to be noticed.

Set an owner and recurring calendar reminder to compare each account’s authorized users and connected apps with current staff duties. Remove access that is no longer needed, including vendor access. Review more frequently during sensitive periods, as CISA recommends.

There is no universal interval in the cited guidance. As a concrete example, the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Affairs Manual requires quarterly audits of official accounts to check credentials, MFA, current access information, and compliance. That is a policy for that department, not a requirement for private companies; use it as one possible starting point and adjust the cadence to your organization’s risk. 5. Prepare for an unauthorized post
Write down who is authorized to take each response action, including:
- Revoke sessions or tokens and remove an unauthorized user.
- Reset credentials and secure linked email or identity accounts.
- Contact the platform and follow its account-recovery process.
- Preserve relevant access logs, alerts, messages, and post details.
- Approve and publish any public correction.
Include security or IT, communications, legal, and business-continuity roles as appropriate. CISA recommends designating a crisis-response team; NCSC advises organizations to work out in advance how to regain account control rather than waiting for an incident. What to check when choosing account or management features
If you are assessing the social platforms or management services your company already uses, compare their controls rather than assuming one product is inherently safer. Check for named-user roles and permission granularity, MFA support, visibility and exportability of access and publishing logs, alerts for account or permission changes, and documented recovery and incident-support procedures. The cited guidance identifies these control areas but does not rank platforms or management vendors.
