Use YouTube Live Control Room to check a cloud-hosted livestream’s status and analytics. Your home PC can be off because the encoder sending video to YouTube runs in the cloud—but monitoring the stream is different from hosting it. A remote-control app for OBS cannot keep a local stream going after the computer running OBS shuts down.
What you can monitor in YouTube Live Control Room
Open the stream’s Live Control Room dashboard while the broadcast is live. YouTube’s guidance identifies it as the place to check stream health and analytics. Stream status may show a specific error and instructions for addressing it. Real-time metrics include concurrent viewers, duration, likes, chat rate, views, and average view duration. These status and engagement details help you determine what YouTube is reporting about the broadcast. The cited guidance does not promise proactive phone alerts, so do not assume that a problem will automatically trigger a notification while you are away.

A livestream needs an encoder running somewhere to send video to YouTube. With a local setup, the encoder might be OBS on your home PC; turning that PC off stops it from sending the feed. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe entering the server URL and stream key in the encoder, starting the encoder, and managing the broadcast through Live Control Room. Cloud hosting moves the streaming workload to a provider’s server. That is different from a cloud-accessible dashboard or a phone app that controls OBS: those tools may let you manage a running local encoder, but they do not make a powered-off home computer encode or transmit video. Set up monitoring when your PC is off
- Verify where the encoder runs. Check the service’s setup and dashboard to establish whether the actual encoder runs on the provider’s server or on your computer. Remote access alone is not cloud hosting.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Select the live stream’s dashboard and check its stream status. If YouTube reports an error, follow the instructions shown there.
- Review the metrics relevant to your broadcast. Use the available real-time analytics—such as concurrent viewers, chat rate, views, and average view duration—to see how the stream is performing with viewers.
- Check that the provider matches your workflow. Confirm it supports your video source and format, sends output to YouTube, and offers the remote controls and status details you need. A prerecorded looping video, a live camera, and an interactive production are different use cases.
- Verify alerts and recovery separately. If you need a notification when a stream fails or a way to restart it remotely, confirm those functions with the provider. YouTube’s cited guidance describes stream status and analytics, not guaranteed proactive phone alerts.
- Confirm current terms before choosing a service. Check availability, pricing, and included functions directly with the provider; capabilities and terms can vary.
Choosing a cloud setup for this use case
Start with whether you need to stream uploaded videos on a loop or produce a live camera or interactive show. Then compare where encoding runs, whether YouTube is a supported destination, what health information is available remotely, and what happens after a failure. A provider’s description is not independent proof of reliability or uptime.

Common monitoring problems and what to check
- The stream stops when the PC shuts down: The encoder may still be running locally. Confirm that the provider hosts the encoder itself, not just its control panel.
- You cannot tell whether YouTube sees an error: Check stream status in Live Control Room and follow any error-specific instructions shown there.
- You expected a phone alert: The cited YouTube guidance does not establish that it sends proactive alerts to a phone. Check whether your hosting provider explicitly offers the notifications you need.
- Remote OBS controls stop working: A phone-control tool for OBS depends on the computer running OBS being on. It is not a substitute for a cloud-hosted encoder.
- The cloud service accepts your setup but the result is not what you intended: Recheck support for your specific feed—prerecorded loop, camera, or interactive production—and YouTube output before relying on it.
