You can mix portrait and landscape property-tour videos in a YouTube Live broadcast by choosing the live output format first, then fitting each clip to the canvas without stretching it. YouTube’s Live Control Room can provide horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 versions at the same time; its vertical layout can use a center crop, fit-to-phone-width, or stacked composition. Set up the vertical output before going live, and test the complete playlist because YouTube’s format controls do not themselves provide a documented continuous loop for prerecorded clips.
Choose the live format before building the loop
Decide whether viewers need one horizontal stream or simultaneous horizontal and vertical versions. YouTube describes horizontal video as 16:9 and vertical video as 9:16. With dual-format behavior in Live Control Room, the vertical preview is derived from the horizontal stream by default as a center crop; you can change its layout and adjust zoom and position. The vertical format cannot be added after the live stream has started. YouTube’s live-streaming guide explains the current controls.
- One horizontal output: A straightforward choice when the room layout, exterior, or wide property context matters most. Portrait clips need a considered fit within the wide canvas.
- Dual horizontal and vertical outputs: YouTube routes horizontal to most viewing surfaces and vertical to mobile viewers in the Shorts feed. Both versions share the same stream URL and live chat. YouTube’s comparison notes that clickable chat and channel-description links are available for horizontal streams, but not in the vertical live feed. Vertical-only metrics can take 24 hours to become available.
For property footage, favor a composition that preserves room boundaries and important features over one that fills every pixel. A crop may remove a doorway, window, facade edge, or other spatial cue. Stretching changes proportions and makes rooms and buildings look distorted.

Prepare the mixed-orientation playlist
1. Sort and inspect the clips
- Make portrait and landscape groups, and note each file’s dimensions and orientation.
- Inspect the edges of every shot for details that a center crop could cut off, such as entrances, windows, cabinetry, or the edges of an exterior.
- Choose representative clips with movement and audio for a full workflow test. This inspection is a production precaution; YouTube does not claim to detect property features or automatically reframe each clip intelligently.
2. Decide how each clip should sit in each canvas
For portrait footage in a landscape canvas, consider keeping the full image with a designed background or a stacked composition rather than enlarging it until the top and bottom are lost. For landscape footage in a vertical layout, try fit-to-phone-width or a carefully positioned crop; check that the framing still communicates the room’s shape and the property’s context.

- 【Wide Compatibility USB Capture Card】 Easily streams to Facebook, Youtube or Twitch. With the connection, this HDMI to USB C/3.0 video capture devices can be working on several Operating Systems and various software: Windows 7/ 8/ 10, Mac OS or above, Linux, Android, Laptop, Xbox One, PS3/PS4/PS5, Camera, DVDs, Set Top Box, Webcame, DSLR, Switch/Switch 2, TV BOX, HDTV, Potplayer/VLC, ZOOM, OBS Studio etc.
- 【Package Content & Note】 1x HD Audio Capture Card , 1x USB 3.0 to USB C Adapter (A-side 3.0, B-side 2.0), 1x user manual. Please note that you need to restart the OBS Studio software after the audio setup is complete, otherwise it will result in no sound output. When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
OBS’s aspect-ratio guide recommends preserving source proportions and filling unused space with other content or designing the scene around the source instead of stretching it. The right treatment depends on the shot: bars or a background may retain the whole room, while a crop can make a detail more legible but discard surrounding context.
3. Configure YouTube’s vertical layout before starting
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room, then prepare the broadcast.
- For the vertical preview, choose the available treatment—center crop, fit to phone width, or stacked—and adjust zoom and position where needed.
- Review the preview against the property clips, especially shots with edge details. Complete this setup before starting the live stream; the vertical format cannot be added once the broadcast is underway.
Labels and controls can vary as YouTube updates Live Control Room. Consult the linked YouTube guide if the current interface differs.

Send separate portrait and landscape feeds from an encoder
If your playback or encoding setup will send two distinct feeds rather than relying on YouTube’s derived vertical layout, configure both formats in advance. YouTube’s documented dual-output flow uses RTMP(S) and a second stream key for the vertical output.
- In Live Control Room, set up the dual-format stream and select Encoder and RTMP(S) in the documented flow.
- Select the second stream key for the vertical feed. Keep track of which key is assigned to which output.
- Configure the encoder to send matching content in the correct orientation and format to each key: landscape to the horizontal output and portrait to the vertical output.
- Check both previews and stream health before making the broadcast public. A second key does not by itself guarantee that an encoder or playlist will compose every mixed-orientation clip appropriately.
Exact encoder menus depend on the software you choose. YouTube documents the RTMP(S) and key workflow, but the sources do not establish a universal setting sequence for every encoder or a certified way to switch layouts clip by clip.

Set encoder quality and verify stream health
In Live Control Room, your encoder specifies resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. YouTube detects the incoming settings and transcodes the feed for different devices and network conditions. Its current recommendations list H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP(S), frame rates up to 60 fps, a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), constant bitrate (CBR), and RTMPS. The recommended bitrate varies with codec, resolution, and frame rate; use YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table rather than treating one bitrate as universal.
For one example from that table, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps using AV1 or H.265, and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps using H.264. These are recommendations, not a promise that your connection or encoder can sustain the feed. Check the table for your actual settings, test the upload connection, and watch stream health during the rehearsal and event.

Test the entire sequence before publishing
YouTube recommends a preflight test using similar audio and motion to the planned event, and advises monitoring stream health and messages while live. Test the full playlist—not only the opening clip—so that orientation changes and transitions are included.

YouTube’s official materials explain live formats and encoder setup, but do not prescribe a native method for continuously looping prerecorded clips or certify mixed-orientation switching in a particular tool.
Copyright and channel considerations
Use footage, music, narration, and other material you have the rights to stream. YouTube may interrupt or restrict a live broadcast when copyrighted material is detected. A technically successful loop is not a guarantee that the channel or content will satisfy YouTube’s monetization rules: channels are reviewed against YouTube’s monetization policies, including rules concerning reused content. Make sure a property loop offers material you are entitled to use and that your channel meets the policies that apply to its intended use.
