Keep the narration in front, then make each handoff gentle: let the final words finish, fade the old music down, leave a brief quiet beat or soft bridge if it helps, and fade the next bed in. There is no YouTube-prescribed music level or fade duration; judge the mix by whether children can follow every word and recognize the start of the next story.
First, decide whether the stories are uploaded videos or a continuous livestream
That distinction affects music rights. For a playlist or compilation of uploaded long-form stories, check the license for each track against that use. For a continuous live stream, do not assume a license intended for uploaded videos also covers live use: YouTube says Creator Music does not support licensing for live content, and its eligible tracks are for long-form videos rather than livestreams. YouTube’s Creator Music usage details and Creator Music FAQ explain those limits.
Clear the music rights before building a recurring mix
Start with YouTube Audio Library or music you created
YouTube identifies its Audio Library music and sound effects as copyright-safe and says YouTube Partner Program members can monetize videos that use them. Check the license column for each track: Creative Commons tracks require attribution in the description, while the standard Audio Library license filter identifies tracks that do not require attribution. YouTube says only Audio Library tracks are known to it as copyright-safe; a “royalty-free” label elsewhere is not by itself a guarantee. See YouTube’s Audio Library guidance.

Check third-party terms for the exact use
If you license music elsewhere, verify that its terms cover your channel, territory, monetization, repeated uploads, editing, and—if applicable—live streaming. YouTube notes that a “free” label or a credit alone does not prevent a Content ID claim. Keep the license text, track title, artist, download date, and any attribution requirement with your project. Do not assume Creator Music works for every format or repeat use
Creator Music terms vary by track. YouTube says most licenses cover one use in one video, while Audio Library licenses are the exception for reuse across multiple YouTube uploads. Creator Music is for eligible long-form videos, not Shorts or livestreams. Check the applicable track terms before using it in a recurring story compilation.
Mix the handoff so the story stays clear
1. Set narration as the anchor
Listen at an ordinary playback volume and reduce the music until the words are effortless to understand, including quiet consonants and sentence endings. If your editor supports volume automation or side-chain ducking, use it to lower the bed during speech. This is a practical listening method, not a numeric target from YouTube.

2. End the first story cleanly
Let the final spoken phrase finish without a musical accent masking it. Fade the current bed down instead of cutting it abruptly. A short quiet beat can make the ending register; a low-level musical bridge can work when silence would feel jarring. Choose one only if it helps the listener follow the sequence.

Fade the next music in smoothly, and avoid placing a louder hit directly beneath the new story’s first important line. Keep the music palette and perceived level reasonably consistent between stories unless a deliberate mood change serves the story.

4. Compare openings and endings back-to-back
Play the sequence at the same listening level from one story’s ending through the next story’s opening. Listen for a sudden jump in loudness, tempo, instrumentation, or mood, and check that music never masks narration. YouTube’s children’s and family content guidance identifies unclear audio and unclear story flow as traits of hard-to-follow videos; it does not prescribe a mix level or fade length. Check the rendered upload and handle claims carefully
Before publishing, confirm that the license matches the final format, add any required attribution, and inspect YouTube Studio for copyright claims. A claim may restrict visibility or monetization, but it does not by itself prove you lack a license. If Studio offers an edit, you may be able to replace claimed audio with Audio Library music or mute or trim the claimed segment. Preview any change carefully before saving. Set the audience accurately for a kids’ channel
YouTube requires creators to designate whether videos are made for kids. Its factors include whether children are the intended audience and whether the content includes stories, songs, language, or activities aimed at children. The creator is responsible for setting the audience accurately. For made-for-kids videos and streams, YouTube restricts features including personalized ads, comments, notifications, live chat, cards, and end screens. These rules affect channel setup and available features, not the sound of the music mix. Read YouTube’s guidance on determining whether content is made for kids and its explanation of made-for-kids features.
