To mirror a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone to Roku, open Smart View on the phone, select your Roku, then approve the request on the TV with the Roku remote. Both devices must support screen mirroring, and the Roku’s permission settings must allow the connection.
Before you connect: check compatibility
Smart View sends your Galaxy phone’s screen and sound to a nearby display. Samsung says the receiving display needs to support Miracast; check the display’s manual or manufacturer if you are unsure. Roku says most current-generation Roku players and Roku TV models support screen mirroring, but some older models do not.
To find your Roku model, use Settings > System > About. Roku’s support page lists these examples:
| Roku model | Screen mirroring support |
|---|---|
| Roku Express 3960, 3930, 3900 | Supported |
| Roku Express 3700 | Not supported |
| Roku Express+ 3931, 3910 | Supported; 3910 works through HDMI, not composite/A/V |
| Roku Express+ 3710 | Not supported |
These are examples from Roku’s model list, not a substitute for checking your exact device. Roku says an Android device running version 10.0 or later is likely to support mirroring, but does not guarantee it; confirm support for your specific Galaxy model with Samsung.

For Smart View stability, Samsung recommends updating the display software and says connecting the phone and display to the same Wi-Fi network may help. Samsung notes that Wi-Fi is not always required, so treat same-network Wi-Fi as a useful troubleshooting check rather than a universal prerequisite.
Mirror your Samsung phone to Roku
- On the Roku, make sure screen mirroring is permitted. When prompted, you can approve the connection during setup.
- On your Samsung phone, swipe down from the top of the screen to open the status panel. Swipe again if needed, then tap Smart View. The exact location and wording can vary by phone model and software.
- Select your Roku from the Smart View device list.

Choose the right sharing method: mirroring or casting
| Screen mirroring | Casting | |
|---|---|---|
| What appears on the TV | The full phone screen, including menus and controls | Content from a compatible app |
| Phone use during playback | The phone stays involved and must remain powered on | You can use the phone for other tasks or turn it off after playback starts |
| Playback control | Actions are controlled on the phone | Playback can be controlled with the Roku remote |
| What you need | Screen-mirroring support on both devices | The matching app installed on the phone and Roku; both devices should be on the same network |
If you only want to watch a video from an app that supports Roku playback, casting is often more convenient than showing your entire phone screen. For content or apps that do not support casting, mirroring may be the better fit.
Fix a Roku that does not appear or denies the connection
Roku Support summarizes common causes this way: “Most screen mirroring issues come down to device compatibility, your Wi-Fi network, or the screen mirroring settings on your Roku device.” Check them in this order.

- Connect both devices to the same network. This is particularly worth checking when the Roku is missing from Smart View’s device list. Samsung says the shared network can improve stability.
- Restart and reconnect. Restart the Roku and network router. On the phone, forget and reconnect to the Wi-Fi network, then try Smart View again.
- Check the receiver. Verify that the TV or receiver supports Miracast, install available display software updates, and check whether it requires a dedicated screen-mirroring mode. Samsung also suggests restarting the display or dongle by powering it off and on.
