To map Airtable data to an image template, prepare fields for each changing value, create a template with dynamic elements, connect Airtable, map the fields to those elements, then choose which records to process and where generated images should go. The exact mapping step depends on the service: Placid uses an explicit field-to-element mapping, while Bannerbear matches Airtable field names to template layer names. Start with a small set of records, inspect the output, and only then automate or process a larger view.

Prepare Airtable records for image generation

Begin by identifying the values that should vary from one image to another. A social graphic might use a headline, short description, call to action, background color, and product image. Put each changing value in its own Airtable field rather than combining several values in one long text field.

  • Use clear, stable field names such as title, description, cta, and image_url.
  • Use an attachment or URL field for image inputs, according to the integration’s supported input types.
  • Keep fixed visual elements—such as a brand logo or decorative frame—in the template rather than duplicating them in every record.
  • Decide whether the workflow should use the whole table or a view that contains only eligible records.

For a first run, a small view is safer than a production-sized batch. Bannerbear’s integration guide recommends checking the workflow on a limited view before generating graphics for all records in the selected table or view.

Create a template with dynamic elements

Build the image layout in the template service and add a dynamic element for every value that should change between records. These elements may be text layers, image layers, or other supported visual elements. Leave elements that should remain identical—such as a logo—static.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Give layers meaningful names. In Placid, defaults on dynamic fields can act as fallbacks when an Airtable field is empty. That can prevent a missing optional value from leaving an unintended blank space, although you should choose defaults that make sense for the design.

Connect Airtable and map fields

Placid: explicitly map inputs to template elements

  1. Connect Airtable in Placid’s project settings.
  2. Create an Airtable action and select the base, table, and, if useful, a view.
  3. Choose the template for the action.
  4. Map each Airtable input field to the intended template element.

Placid documents text, URL, and attachment fields as usable inputs. It also describes mapping a text field containing a hex color value to a shape’s color. Check that each Airtable value is appropriate for its target element; for example, an image attachment belongs on an image element, not a text layer.

Bannerbear: match Airtable field names to layer names

  1. Open the template’s Airtable integration.
  2. Provide the base, table, and view details for the records to import.
  3. Make the Airtable field names correspond to the template layer names.

Bannerbear’s documented flow relies on corresponding names rather than the explicit field-to-element mapping step described by Placid. Its help page says unmatched fields or layers are excluded, so a spelling or naming mismatch can leave a value out of the generated image. Confirm the names on both sides before importing.

Choose records and prevent unwanted batches

Record selection determines which rows create images. Placid actions can filter records using text or number comparisons, test whether fields are empty, and combine conditions with AND or OR logic. For example, you can select only records where a CTA is present and an approval checkbox is checked. This helps keep drafts or incomplete rows out of an automated run.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Bannerbear’s batch import guide describes generating graphics for all records in the selected table or view. Use a small view to validate the mapping first; expand the view only after you have checked that the image output and record selection are correct.

Choose where generated images are saved

Decide whether the output should be attached to the Airtable record or represented by a link. Placid documents writing generated images into attachment fields or writing image links into single-line text fields. Its supported output choices include images and PDFs.

Bannerbear recommends a URL column named bannerbear_image_url for generated image URLs. It also documents an optional imported checkbox to track rows that have already been imported. To import a row again, uncheck that box.

Run, inspect, and automate the workflow

Validate a manual run

  1. Run the action or import against a small, representative view.
  2. Inspect the generated assets for missing text, incorrect images, unexpected blank areas, and formatting that does not fit the design.
  3. Check the destination field on each Airtable record and confirm that the intended record received the intended output.
  4. Correct field names, mappings, defaults, or source data before processing more records.

Set up recurring generation carefully

Placid documents manual actions, interval-based actions, and webhook-triggered actions. It also describes using an Airtable Automation script to regenerate an image after a record update. Choose a trigger that matches the workflow: a manual run suits occasional publishing, while an interval or webhook can support repeated updates. Define what qualifies as ready for generation, such as an approval field or a non-empty required value, so edits to incomplete records do not produce premature assets.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Understand reruns and existing output

Placid says non-empty output fields are not overwritten by default. To regenerate an image using that behavior, delete the previous output first. Bannerbear’s documented tracking approach uses an imported checkbox; uncheck it when a row should be imported again. Before rerunning, decide whether the existing image should be kept, replaced, or retained elsewhere.

Placid and Bannerbear: documented workflow differences

Workflow detail Placid Bannerbear
Airtable connection Connect Airtable in project settings, then create an action and select a base, table, and optional view. Connect through a template’s Airtable integration with base, table, and view details.
Mapping Explicitly map input fields to template elements; documented inputs include text, URL, and attachment fields. Airtable field names should match template layer names; unmatched items are excluded.
Record selection Filters can check empty values and compare text or numbers, with AND/OR conditions. The cited help flow uses a selected view; the guide recommends a small view for initial checks.
Output Images or PDFs; output can go to an attachment field or a single-line text field containing a link. Generated image URLs can be written to a URL field named bannerbear_image_url.
Reruns and triggers Manual, interval, webhook, or documented Airtable Automation script patterns; non-empty outputs are not overwritten by default. An imported checkbox can track imported rows and be unchecked to import again.

Troubleshoot common mapping problems

A value is missing from the image

  • In Placid, check that the input field is mapped to the intended template element and that the selected base, table, and view contain the record.
  • In Bannerbear, compare the Airtable field name with the template layer name. The documented integration excludes unmatched fields or layers.
  • Check that the source field contains a value and that its type is suitable for the element.

An image input does not appear

Confirm that the Airtable field contains a usable URL or attachment and that the integration is configured to use that field as an image input. Placid’s guide identifies URL and attachment fields among its supported inputs; verify the actual record’s value as well as the mapping.

The wrong rows were processed

Review the selected table or view and the action’s filters. In Placid, inspect empty-field checks, text or number conditions, and AND/OR combinations. For Bannerbear batch imports, remember that the selected table or view defines the batch scope; narrow it before a test run.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A rerun does not replace the old image

For Placid, a non-empty output is not overwritten by default, so remove the existing output before regenerating when replacement is intended. For Bannerbear, clear the row’s imported state by unchecking its imported checkbox when you want it imported again.

The first run creates more assets than expected

Stop and narrow the selected view or record filters before running again. Validate with a small set of records so an unintended selection does not turn into a table-wide batch.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations

The cited vendor documentation explains setup, mapping, filtering, outputs, and automation options. It does not establish generation-time benchmarks, comparative reliability, current prices, plan entitlements, or usage limits. Check each vendor’s current plan and product documentation before choosing a workflow based on those factors.

Operationally, reduce avoidable reruns by using an explicit ready/approved condition, testing a representative record set, and choosing an output policy before enabling a trigger. Keep the source fields stable and document which fields feed which visual elements so template edits do not silently break the mapping.
