To make content larger on just one Windows 11 monitor, open Settings > System > Display, select that monitor, and increase its Scale under Scale & layout. This keeps the other display’s scale unchanged, but enlarges apps and other interface elements as well as text. Windows’ separate Accessibility > Text size control enlarges text broadly across Windows; it is not a per-monitor text-only setting.

Choose the control that matches what you want to enlarge

Control Scope What it enlarges How it applies
Accessibility > Text size Windows broadly Text, including text in title bars, menus, and icon labels Windows setting
System > Display > Scale The selected display Apps and other visual elements as well as text Per-display setting
App zoom, such as Edge zoom One app or page Content in that app or page App-specific setting
Magnifier A temporary screen area or view Screen content, not just text Temporary assistive tool

Microsoft distinguishes the broad Text size setting from per-display Scale in its guidance on making text and apps bigger. For a single monitor, use Scale; for a single app or temporary viewing, use that app’s zoom or Magnifier.

Increase the size of everything on one monitor

  1. Open Start > Settings > System > Display.
  2. In the display arrangement, select the monitor you want to change. If you have external displays, confirm that the selected display is the intended one before changing its settings.
  3. Under Scale & layout, choose a larger value from Scale. Windows generally recommends the option marked Recommended, but you can choose another available value to suit your needs.
  4. Leave the other monitor’s Scale setting unchanged.

Windows lets you select a display before adjusting its scale or resolution; see Microsoft’s instructions for changing screen resolution and layout and using multiple monitors.

Tradeoff: Scale changes the size of apps and other visual elements on the selected display along with text. Windows does not document a native per-monitor control that changes only text on that screen.

Make Windows text bigger everywhere

  1. Press Windows key + U to open Accessibility settings, or go to Start > Settings > Accessibility.
  2. Select Text size.
  3. Move the Text size slider to the right, then select Apply.

This setting makes Windows text larger broadly, including examples such as title bars, menus, and icon text. It is useful when text across Windows is hard to read, but it does not provide separate text-size sliders for individual monitors.

Zoom in Microsoft Edge

To change the size of web content without changing Windows display settings, use Settings and more > Zoom in or Zoom out in Edge. You can also press Ctrl + Plus to zoom in and Ctrl + Minus to zoom out. Edge’s Accessibility settings let you set a default page zoom level. These options affect Edge content rather than the size of Windows text everywhere; see Microsoft’s Edge accessibility guidance.

Use Windows Magnifier

Press Windows key + Plus to start Magnifier. Press Windows key + Esc to turn it off. Magnifier can enlarge more than text, so it is best for temporary viewing or a portion of the screen rather than as a persistent per-monitor text setting. Microsoft explains the available controls in its Magnifier guide.

What to check if text looks blurry or a change does not appear

  • Give apps time to respond. Some changes take effect immediately; certain apps may need you to sign out of Windows and sign back in before they use the new setting.
  • Keep the display at its native or recommended resolution when possible. Microsoft warns that a lower-than-native resolution can make text less sharp and may make the picture appear small, centered, bordered, or stretched.
  • Check the individual app. Apps do not all respond identically to system scaling. Microsoft’s guidance for Office apps that look the wrong size or blurry on external monitors discusses app-specific behavior and possible remedies, including updating Windows, signing out, checking Office’s multiple-display options where available, and adjusting display settings.

Windows labels and app behavior can change with updates. The steps here reflect Microsoft’s Windows 11 support guidance accessed on October 4, 2026.
