To keep a website screenshot readable in Google Docs, capture only the content you need, avoid shrinking it to fit a whole page, and give it as much document space as practical. If copy-paste inserts the wrong image or produces an unexpected result, save the screenshot and add it with Insert > Image > Upload from computer. Cropping, landscape page orientation, and image adjustments can help—but resizing cannot restore detail that was missing from the screenshot.
Capture only the details your document needs
A full-page screenshot may include useful context, but fitting the entire page into a document can make its text too small to read. If the important details are scattered across a long page, use several focused screenshots instead of shrinking one full-page image until everything fits. There is no universal minimum screenshot width established by Google Docs guidance; judge the result by whether readers can inspect the smallest text or detail that matters.
Insert the screenshot reliably
Google Docs supports copying and pasting an image from a website, uploading an image saved on your computer, and dragging and dropping an image into the document. If pasting does not give you the intended screenshot, save the capture first, then choose Insert > Image > Upload from computer and select the file.
Make the image use document space well
Crop irrelevant content
Select the image and crop browser controls, blank margins, or page sections that do not help explain your point. A narrower crop can occupy more of the page while keeping the relevant content larger. Keep enough surrounding context for readers to understand what the screenshot shows.

Adjust image size and appearance
Use Docs’ image size and scale controls to make the meaningful content occupy more of the available page. Brightness and contrast adjustments may help distinguish text from its background. These controls can improve how an image fits or appears, but they cannot recover fine detail absent from the original capture.
Use landscape for a wide screenshot
If a useful view is still too wide for a portrait page, switch the relevant page or section to landscape orientation. Page orientation settings are available in Pages format, not Pageless format. Landscape gives the image more horizontal room, but it does not add pixels or sharpen text that was already too small in the capture.

Check accessibility and legibility
Add alternative text that describes the page content or the evidence the screenshot is meant to show. Google’s accessibility guidance says alternative text gives screen-reader users an audio description of what is on screen. It also recommends strong contrast; its guidance cites WCAG 2.0 contrast recommendations of 4.5:1 for large text and 7:1 for other text and images.
Before sharing, inspect the screenshot at the size it will appear in the document. If the smallest important text is difficult to distinguish, use a tighter crop, a larger image, or an additional focused capture rather than relying on readers to zoom in.

Use document zoom only to inspect while editing
Google Docs’ document zoom ranges from 50% to 200%. Increasing zoom can make the current document view larger while you work, but it does not change how other people see the document and does not restore detail in the embedded screenshot.
