To play prerecorded worship videos in a set order on YouTube Live, build an ordered playlist in OBS Studio using its VLC Video source, then send that continuous feed to a scheduled YouTube Live event. Turn off shuffle, choose whether the playlist should loop, and test the full setup before the service. Scheduling the YouTube event alone does not play local video files.
Prepare the worship-service rundown
Decide the sequence before configuring the encoder. For example, you might arrange a title card, welcome, worship videos, announcements, sermon, and closing. That is a planning example, not a required church liturgy.
- Put the media files in the intended playback order.
- Check each file’s picture and audio before the service, including any transitions or gaps that matter to your rundown.
- Confirm that the church has permission to use every video and audio track. YouTube’s live-stream copyright checks can affect prerecorded material just as they can other content.
The cited platform documentation does not establish one file format or encoding preset that will suit every church computer and network, so rehearse with the actual files and equipment you plan to use.
Make an ordered playlist in OBS Studio
OBS’s VLC Video source can play a playlist of media files. VLC must be installed for this source type to appear in OBS; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene you will send to YouTube.
- Add the files in the same order as your service rundown. Review the list before going live; the playlist order determines playback order.
- Make sure Shuffle Playlist is off. OBS documents that shuffle is off by default; enabling it randomizes the list.
- Set Loop Playlist to match the service plan. OBS documents that looping is on by default, so turn it off for a one-pass service. Leave it on only if you intend playback to restart after the final item.
- Check the OBS preview and audio meters. Play through the sequence in a short rehearsal and confirm that the expected video and sound are present.
OBS strongly recommends a short test before the first stream; its Quick Start Guide advises testing for a few minutes rather than jumping straight into a first live stream or recording. A rehearsal is particularly useful for catching an incorrect playlist order, an accidental loop, missing audio, or a file that does not play on the church’s chosen setup.
Schedule the YouTube Live event and connect OBS
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a scheduled event and an encoder feed. Scheduling lets viewers find the upcoming event, share it in advance, and use the reminder option; it does not itself sequence local prerecorded files. Follow the controls currently shown in YouTube Studio, since interface details can change.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- From the Manage tab, schedule the stream. Set up the event details and confirm that you are preparing the event you intend to use.
- Open the scheduled event’s stream settings and copy its stream URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder settings in OBS.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as similar to a password: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Do not show it in screenshots or public setup instructions, and take care when sharing access among volunteers.
- Start sending the feed from OBS and wait for the encoder preview to appear in Live Control Room.
- When the preview is ready and the church is ready to begin, start the event using Go live in Live Control Room.

- Before the service: Verify the sequence, shuffle and loop settings, picture, audio, stream key, and preview. Run a short test on the computer and network you will use for the actual event.
- At the end: YouTube’s encoder guide instructs streamers to end the event in Live Control Room and stop sending the encoder feed.
- For the recording: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If the archive matters to your church, confirm the current channel and event settings rather than relying on an assumption about a particular event.
Protect worship content from copyright interruptions
YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If YouTube identifies third-party material, it may show a placeholder image and warn the creator to stop using it; if the material remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

If your church has licensed third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add the church channel to the owner’s Content ID allowlist. Without that allowlisting, a live stream may still be interrupted even when the church has a license or has restricted territories to places where it owns the necessary rights. A license and Content ID allowlisting are separate issues; neither an encoder nor a streaming service grants music or video rights.
- Check rights for the full video and each audio track, including backing tracks and recordings.
- Check permissions for lyrics and material supplied by another ministry or producer.
- Where licensed material may trigger Content ID, ask the rights owner about allowlisting the church’s channel before the service.

These options solve the playback-and-connection problem in different ways. YouTube’s documentation lists some products, but does not compare their prices, reliability, or suitability for an individual congregation. Check current features and terms directly before choosing.
