A practical way to make Claude Code’s work more dependable is to give it stable project guidance, have it inspect the relevant files before editing, and define checks it can use to verify the result. Anthropic documents each of these capabilities, but does not publish a measured reliability gain for combining them; treat the workflow as a useful process, not a guarantee.
Why this workflow can help
Claude Code can use persistent project instructions, investigate a codebase, and check its work against stated criteria. Together, those steps address three common sources of avoidable mistakes: missing project context, assumptions about how the code works, and unclear definitions of “done.” They do not ensure a correct change, so review the proposed approach and the resulting diff.
Anthropic’s prompting guidance recommends investigating relevant files before making claims about a codebase and asking Claude to check its answer against criteria. Its memory documentation describes project-level instructions in CLAUDE.md. These are documented features and practices, not a controlled test showing that they improve reliability by a particular amount.

Anthropic describes ./CLAUDE.md as shared project instructions and says memory files load when Claude Code starts. Use it for information that should remain useful across tasks, rather than pasting the same background into each prompt. For details and current behavior, see Anthropic’s memory documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep the file concise and specific. Useful entries include where important parts of the project live, conventions that are not apparent from the code, and the commands the team actually uses to validate changes. User memory can hold personal preferences across projects; project guidance belongs in the repository when it should be shared with other contributors.
A compact project-guidance pattern
# Project guidance
## Where things live
- Application code: [actual directory]
- Tests: [actual directory]
## Conventions
- [A stable project-specific rule that is not obvious from the code]
## Validation
- [Actual command used to run the relevant tests or checks]
Replace each example with verified project details. Avoid speculative instructions, stale commands, or an exhaustive copy of information Claude can discover by inspecting the repository.

Ask Claude Code to inspect before it edits
For a change that depends on existing behavior, tell Claude Code to read the relevant files and repository guidance first. Ask it to identify the files or existing patterns that matter before it proposes or makes a change. This makes the investigation an explicit part of the task rather than leaving the model to infer the project structure from a short request.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThen describe the desired behavior and observable acceptance checks. Prefer checks that can actually be evaluated—for example, the relevant test command or a specific behavior that must remain intact—over vague instructions such as “make it robust.” Anthropic’s prompting guidance recommends codebase investigation and self-checking against criteria.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Task prompt pattern
Read the relevant repository guidance and inspect the files related to this change before editing.
Implement: [specific requested behavior]
Acceptance checks:
- [Observable expected result]
- [Relevant regression or compatibility condition]
- Run: [actual validation command]
Before finishing, report the checks you ran and any failures. If a check cannot be run, say why.
Use the project’s real behavior and commands in place of the bracketed examples. If the requested change is ambiguous or the repository lacks a relevant check, ask for clarification or define a reasonable check before treating the task as complete.
Use plan mode for unfamiliar or consequential changes
When the work is unfamiliar or could have significant effects, first ask Claude Code to analyze the task and propose an approach without editing files. Anthropic’s CLI reference documents permission modes, and its security and IAM material describes plan mode as analysis without file edits or command execution. Exact flags and controls can change, so consult the current CLI reference rather than relying on a remembered command.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Review the proposed files, approach, and commands; then proceed with only the permissions the task needs. Anthropic documents tool allow and deny lists as permission controls. It also labels --dangerously-skip-permissions as a cautionary option, not a routine shortcut. Review consequential commands and inspect the diff before accepting a change. See Anthropic’s security guidance for current permission details.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Verify the result against the acceptance checks
After the change, ask Claude Code to run the relevant available checks and report the exact outcomes, including failures. If a check was not run, the result should say so rather than imply that it passed. Review the diff yourself for unintended edits, missing requirements, and changes outside the requested scope; a successful test command does not prove every requirement is met.

This final check closes the loop: project guidance supplies context, inspection grounds the implementation in existing code, and explicit criteria give Claude Code something concrete to verify. The sources establish these features and recommendations, not a guarantee that the combined workflow prevents errors.
Check setup if Claude Code is not behaving as expected
If commands or features do not match your installation, verify the current setup instructions and installed version before troubleshooting the workflow. Anthropic’s setup documentation recommends claude doctor to check an installation and documents claude update for updating Claude Code. Follow the current setup documentation because supported access routes and setup details may change.
