You can run tournament replays continuously on YouTube Live by first securing written permission for the exact rebroadcast, then feeding a prepared replay playlist to YouTube through either a computer running an encoder or a hosted playout service. A replay being online already does not make it free to rebroadcast. Choose the playout method only after the organizer and relevant rights holders have cleared the footage and its other elements for your intended use.

Clear rights before setting up the stream

Ask the event organizer and other relevant rights holders for written permission that matches the stream you intend to run. YouTube’s terms put responsibility for rights and compliance with applicable laws on the content provider. The exact permissions needed depend on the event, game, footage and contract; the title alone does not establish that any particular replay is cleared.

Make the permission specific to your planned use

Confirm that the grant covers continuous live rebroadcast on YouTube, any saved or separately published archive, the countries where viewers can watch, how long the license lasts, and whether monetization is allowed. Check each component of the broadcast—not just the game footage—including music, commentary, overlays, team or player material, and the event’s broadcast production. Ask whether the rights holder must add your channel to a Content ID allowlist.

Check the game and event rules

Game-publisher and tournament-operator policies may impose additional conditions. For Dota 2, consult Valve’s DotaTV License and the event operator’s current streaming requirements. Valve says an operator may set requirements for community streams, and that operator-provided camera work and broadcast audio need the operator’s authorization. This Dota-specific example is not a universal rule for other games or Indian tournaments; check the relevant publisher and organizer requirements for your event.

Choose who will operate the playout

The main choice is whether you operate the encoder on a computer or use a hosted service to keep uploaded replays playing. Hosted playout can move the continuous playback job off a computer at your location; it does not grant footage rights or prevent YouTube from acting on a copyright match.

Approach Who operates playback Local computer and connection What to check
StreamNeo hosted playout StreamNeo loops uploaded videos or a playlist in the cloud after you add your YouTube stream key and go live. Your computer does not need to stay on for the cloud stream to continue. Confirm that your license covers the videos and continuous YouTube transmission. StreamNeo’s service does not supply rights clearance.
Self-hosted encoder You operate a computer, encoder and replay feed. The host computer, power, internet connection, software and monitoring must be available while it runs. Plan for playlist control, connection interruptions, monitoring and local recordings. A dedicated mini PC is optional, not a YouTube requirement.

For either approach, make sure the workflow fits the rights grant and that someone can respond if playback stops or YouTube reports a problem. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes the connection workflow, but it does not prescribe a particular playlist application, encoder brand, computer specification or 24/7 architecture.

Set up a self-hosted replay stream

1. Prepare the cleared replay feed

Gather only the recordings covered by your permission. Arrange them in the order you want played and test that the chosen encoder or playlist workflow can feed them continuously. The official guidance cited here does not establish a universal playlist recipe, so confirm how your encoder handles the end of a file, the transition to the next item, and the end of the playlist before relying on it unattended.

2. Make the channel eligible and create the live stream

  1. Use a verified YouTube channel that has had no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days. If live streaming is unavailable, check channel verification and restrictions before troubleshooting your encoder.
  2. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room, then create or schedule a stream. YouTube recommends encoder streaming for gameplay and higher-production programming.
  3. In the stream’s setup details, copy the YouTube server or stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: it gives an encoder access to the stream destination.

3. Connect and test the encoder

  1. In the encoder’s streaming settings, enter the server or stream URL and stream key from YouTube. Select the prepared replay feed as its video source.
  2. Set the encoder’s output to match the footage and the capacity of your upload connection. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify a tested resolution, bitrate, frame rate or keyframe interval for this particular replay setup; do not assume one configuration fits every source and network.
  3. Start the encoder’s preview feed and inspect it in the Live Control Room before going live. Check both video and audio, including whether the feed moves correctly from one replay to the next.
  4. When the preview is sound, use the Live Control Room to start the stream. Verify the live output rather than assuming that a successful encoder connection guarantees a healthy broadcast.

4. Keep the stream observable

Monitor the encoder and YouTube stream health during operation. Arrange regular checks and a person or procedure to respond to a stopped feed, degraded connection or copyright notice. YouTube recommends testing upload capacity, monitoring stream health and leaving bandwidth headroom; a continuous feed should not be treated as self-maintaining just because it has started successfully.

Plan for bandwidth, interruptions and recordings

Leave upload headroom

The total outgoing stream bitrate must fit the available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the total streaming bitrate. Test the connection while the encoder is sending the actual feed, and check that other activity on the same connection does not consume the capacity the stream needs.

Keep a local archive and retention plan

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording backup and confirm that recordings are being written and retained as intended. If you plan to restart the broadcast or run separate sessions instead of one long stream, treat that as an operational choice and confirm that the rights grant covers it.

Treat monetization as a separate decision

Permission to rebroadcast does not guarantee that a channel can monetize the stream. Eligible channels may use live ads, Super Chat or Super Stickers, or memberships, but ad delivery is not guaranteed. YouTube also applies channel-level monetization rules on reused content and inauthentic content. A minimally changed loop of tournament replays can therefore face monetization risk even when rebroadcast rights are in place. Check the current policy and channel eligibility when deciding whether to apply or enable monetization.
