You can use a Mac mini and OBS Studio to send a prerecorded product-demo playlist to YouTube Live, but the Mac, encoder, and network connection must keep running for a local stream to stay on air. The basic path is: prepare the videos, configure an OBS output, connect it to a YouTube broadcast using the server URL and stream key, then monitor the broadcast. Exact playlist-looping and unattended-recovery steps depend on your current OBS and macOS versions, so test them on your setup before relying on the stream around the clock.
How the signal gets from your playlist to YouTube
A prerecorded playlist does not become a live stream by itself. An encoder reads or plays the video, converts it into a stream, and sends it to YouTube’s live ingestion service. YouTube describes an encoder as software or standalone hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. The chain is:
Product demo files or playlist → encoder on the Mac mini → YouTube Live ingestion over RTMPS → YouTube broadcast and watch page.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesOBS Studio is a software encoder option for macOS. YouTube’s encoder instructions use a server URL and stream key to connect an encoder to a broadcast. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to the associated stream. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide and its RTMPS ingestion documentation.

Check YouTube eligibility before setting up OBS
Make sure the channel can livestream before investing time in configuring the Mac. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance rather than assuming it will be available immediately. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility help.
YouTube’s policies still apply to prerecorded material. Use videos and audio you have the rights to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright and live-streaming rules. A continuous stream is not permission to reuse another creator’s work. Also consider whether your channel’s content meets YouTube’s applicable monetization policies if monetization matters to you.
Prepare the demo videos and stream plan
Decide what viewers should see
Choose the demo clips, their order, and whether they should repeat. Check that the files play correctly, that their audio is appropriate for a public stream, and that the sequence does not expose private information such as customer data, credentials, or unreleased product screens. This workflow does not require a webcam, microphone, or capture card when the source is prerecorded video.

Choose a target output before choosing a Mac mini
Set your intended resolution, frame rate, and output format based on the source footage and viewing needs, then confirm that the specific Mac mini can encode that output steadily. The available documentation does not establish a suitable Mac mini model or configuration, benchmark, bitrate, or sustained-load result. Do not assume that every Mac mini can run a particular resolution or frame rate indefinitely; validate your chosen machine with the actual playlist and OBS settings.
Likewise, there is no universally correct bitrate to quote without knowing the resolution, frame rate, codec, and network capacity. Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for your chosen output, then test for dropped frames and stable delivery rather than copying an unqualified number from another setup.
Connect OBS Studio to a YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio and create or select a live broadcast. Use the current Live Control Room controls to configure the broadcast and obtain its connection details. Interface labels may change; follow the current YouTube encoder workflow if the screen differs from older guides.
- Open OBS Studio on the Mac mini and configure its stream service. Choose the YouTube integration if available, or enter the server URL and stream key supplied by YouTube. Do not share, publish, or store the key where others can access it.
- Use the secure ingest details supplied by YouTube. RTMPS is RTMP carried through SSL. Google documents the valid endpoint and application path, port 443, and hostname authentication requirements. Prefer YouTube’s provided endpoint rather than manually inventing or editing a URL.
- Set OBS output to match the stream you intend to deliver. Choose a resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate appropriate to your source and connection, following YouTube’s current guidance. Confirm the selected output in a private or unlisted test before using a public broadcast.
- Start sending encoder data, then verify the broadcast in YouTube Studio. An encoder showing that it is connected is not the same as confirming that viewers can see the live broadcast. Check YouTube’s preview and status, then open the watch page from a separate device or browser session.
YouTube documents RTMPS settings at RTMPS ingestion, and the encoder connection flow at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Handle playlist looping and unattended operation carefully
The setup has two separate jobs: make OBS play the demo material in the intended order, and keep the Mac, OBS, and internet connection available. The cited platform and OBS documentation does not establish one current, universal OBS playlist-loop procedure for every version, nor does it establish a tested Mac mini sleep-prevention or process-relaunch recipe. Check the controls in the OBS version you install and run a sustained test with your specific files before treating the workflow as unattended.
For scheduled YouTube broadcasts, the OBS Project guide describes an auto-start option that can put a scheduled broadcast live when encoder data begins. It also warns that auto-stop ends the broadcast when the encoder stops, which can affect whether a reconnect resumes the same broadcast. The detailed guide was last updated October 8, 2021; verify current OBS and YouTube behavior before relying on those controls. See the OBS Project guide to setting up a stream.
YouTube’s API documentation describes reusing a stream configuration across scheduled broadcasts and keeping a 24/7 broadcast active while a separate broadcast is live. That is a platform capability, not a guarantee that OBS, macOS, or a local network will survive an interruption. See YouTube’s broadcast documentation.

Test the stream before leaving it unattended
- Run the entire playlist. Confirm clip order, transitions or gaps, audio levels, and what happens at the end of the sequence.
- Check the YouTube viewer experience. Verify the preview, watch page, audio, and intended privacy setting from a separate device.
- Observe the Mac and network under load. Look for dropped frames, overheating or performance issues, and internet interruptions during a long run.
- Simulate a brief interruption. Check what happens if OBS loses the connection or encoder data stops, and whether the broadcast remains available for reconnection under your chosen settings.
- Confirm recovery behavior explicitly. Do not infer that an automatic reconnect will restart a stopped broadcast; test the current OBS and YouTube controls you plan to use.
Troubleshoot common failures
YouTube does not offer live streaming
Check that the channel is verified, review any live-stream restrictions, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Recheck the current YouTube eligibility requirements.
OBS is connected but viewers do not see a live broadcast
Confirm that the correct broadcast is selected in YouTube Studio, that OBS is sending to the matching server URL and key, and that the broadcast has actually been started or auto-started. Check YouTube’s Live Control Room status and preview; encoder connectivity alone does not prove the public broadcast is live.

The stream fails to connect or drops
Recheck the exact YouTube-provided server URL and stream key, confirm the network allows the secure RTMPS connection, and inspect OBS’s connection and dropped-frame indicators. Google documents RTMPS on port 443 and endpoint authentication requirements in its ingestion guide. After an interruption, verify whether the broadcast is still active before assuming OBS has resumed it.

The broadcast ends when OBS stops
Review the current scheduled-broadcast auto-stop behavior. The OBS Project guide explains that auto-stop can end the broadcast when encoder data stops; that may conflict with a workflow intended to reconnect after a short interruption. Confirm the current interface and test the setting before a long unattended run.
The playlist stops, repeats incorrectly, or shows a blank output
Check that each source file plays in OBS, that the intended order and repeat behavior are configured in your installed version, and that the output remains visible after a clip ends. The available documentation does not verify a specific current looping recipe, so test the complete sequence rather than relying on a setting name from an older guide.
The Mac mini or OBS becomes unavailable
A local setup depends on the host computer and its operating environment staying functional. Check power, network, system sleep behavior, and OBS process stability on your own machine. No specific Mac mini configuration or recovery procedure is established here; validate those details with the macOS and OBS versions you will actually run.

Compare the ways to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running
There are three broad approaches. The available platform documentation identifies the options but does not provide comparative prices, a reliability ranking, or a tested winner for playlist controls or recovery.
| Approach | Computer must stay on? | Playlist and scheduling | Recovery and operator effort | Cost evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud service | No home computer needs to stay on; it runs the uploaded-video stream in the cloud. | 24/7 looping and playlists are included. | Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; support from the StreamNeo team. | Per-slot pricing is listed below. |
| Mac mini with OBS | Yes. The Mac mini, OBS, and network connection must remain available. | Configure the playlist in OBS; verify looping and scheduled-broadcast behavior in current versions. | You operate and monitor the host and encoder; test reconnect and broadcast settings. | No comparative price is established here. |
| Standalone encoder hardware, such as AJA HELO Plus | YouTube describes this category as able to schedule prerecorded media without a computer. | Scheduling prerecorded media is identified; specific playlist controls should be confirmed with the current product documentation. | Behavior and recovery depend on the device and setup; no comparative reliability result is established here. | No price is established here. |
| Cloud continuous-stream service, such as Gyre | A cloud service can remove the dedicated-computer requirement. | YouTube lists Gyre as a service for 24/7 prerecorded video; compare current playlist controls with the vendor. | Operational and recovery details depend on the service; no comparative reliability result is established here. | Current prices were not established here. |
YouTube’s encoder documentation lists streaming software and hardware options. That directory is not a comparative performance test.
