You can organize archived YouTube livestreams in a playlist through YouTube Studio, even when the videos are marked made for kids. The key is to distinguish creator-side playlist management from viewer-facing restrictions: YouTube disables “Save to playlist” on made-for-kids videos and live streams, but its Studio guidance provides playlist creation and video-management controls. First classify each stream accurately, then create the playlist and set expectations for viewers.

1. Set the livestream’s audience accurately

Choose the audience setting based on who the stream is intended for and whether its content is child-directed—not simply because it is family-friendly or children might watch it. YouTube says creators are responsible for selecting an audience, and automated systems may not identify all content that authorities consider child-directed. Review YouTube’s guidance on determining whether content is made for kids; consult legal counsel if you are unsure.

You can set an audience at the channel level or for an individual video. An individual video setting can override the channel setting. For YouTube’s current workflow, see Set your channel or video’s audience.

For a livestream you are setting up

  1. In YouTube Studio, select CREATE → Go live.
  2. Enter the stream details and privacy setting.
  3. In the Live Control Room, select the audience setting that accurately describes the stream.

For an archived livestream

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Content → Live.
  2. Find the archived stream and edit its audience setting.

Made-for-kids status affects available features. YouTube lists “Save to playlist and Save to watch later” as unavailable for individual made-for-kids videos and live streams; other restrictions include live chat and personalized advertising. Review the current audience and feature restrictions, since platform controls can change.

2. Create a playlist in YouTube Studio

  1. In YouTube Studio, select CREATE → New playlist.
  2. Enter a descriptive title and description. YouTube’s Studio instructions specify a maximum of 150 characters for the title and 5,000 characters for the description.
  3. Choose the playlist’s visibility and ordering.
  4. Add videos, then create the playlist.

YouTube’s YouTube Studio playlist instructions describe adding videos from search, a URL, or the creator’s library. The viewer-facing Save restriction does not itself describe the creator’s Studio workflow. However, YouTube’s Help pages do not promise that every made-for-kids archived stream will be addable in every interface state. If Studio does not offer a particular stream, the guidance here does not establish an alternate workaround.

3. Add the archived streams and organize them

Use the add-video options available in the playlist workflow: search, a URL, or your library. Give the playlist a name that tells viewers what the archived sessions contain, such as the series name, subject, or date range. Arrange streams in the order that best serves that purpose—newest first for ongoing coverage, or in session order for a series. Ordering is your editorial choice, not a YouTube requirement.

4. Choose who can see the playlist

Visibility Best suited to Access
Public Broad discovery and sharing Available publicly
Unlisted Sharing by link People with the link can access it
Private Restricted access Limited to the owner and selected people

Set playlist visibility to match your intended audience and access needs. YouTube’s playlist privacy guidance covers public, unlisted, and private options.

5. Explain the viewer limitation clearly

Viewers cannot use “Save to playlist” on made-for-kids videos or live streams. YouTube’s playlist Help page also says viewers cannot add made-for-kids content from a homepage, while noting that “You can still add content from search results into playlists.” That search-results note describes a viewer-side route; it should not be presented as a workaround to the creator-side restriction or as a guarantee that every stream can be saved in every circumstance. See Create & manage playlists for the viewer instructions and context.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you also want uploaded videos to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate option from making a playlist: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
