To restart a church sermon stream automatically each day, schedule the event in YouTube Studio and configure daily recurrence in the encoder or a separate scheduler. YouTube’s encoder auto-start and auto-stop settings let an encoder start or end a stream; they do not, by themselves, set a daily timetable. Test the complete sequence on the church’s actual equipment before relying on it.
What YouTube’s scheduling and auto-start settings do
A scheduled YouTube stream creates an upcoming event viewers can find and set reminders for. YouTube also offers encoder auto-start and auto-stop controls. Those controls are not a documented daily recurrence schedule: the recurring time must be handled by the encoder or another scheduling arrangement.
For encoder streams, YouTube’s instruction for ending a session is: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

1. Confirm the channel can go live
Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable access and test it before the first planned service. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

2. Schedule the YouTube event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Choose Manage, then Schedule Stream.
- Enter the event details and select the appropriate stream settings. You can reuse settings from a previous stream.
- Share the upcoming event with the congregation so viewers can set reminders.
These steps schedule an event; they do not establish a recurring daily event. Consult YouTube Help: Schedule a live stream for the current scheduling instructions.
3. Connect the encoder
Choose a software or standalone hardware encoder. In its YouTube connection settings, enter the stream URL and stream key currently shown in the Live Control Room. The key lets the encoder send its feed to your channel, so treat it like a credential: do not share it publicly, and replace it if it is exposed.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. The exact menus vary by encoder, so use that product’s documentation for where to enter the URL and key.

4. Configure the daily recurrence outside YouTube’s event settings
Check whether your encoder or separate scheduler can start and stop a stream at the required times every day. Configure the schedule there, including the correct time zone and the transition from one day’s session to the next. Ensure one run ends before the next begins, and verify how the system behaves if the computer or encoder restarts or loses its connection. YouTube’s documented auto-start and auto-stop options are encoder controls, not a daily clock; the steps for recurring automation depend on the equipment and software you use.

5. Rehearse the whole sequence
- Set up the actual sermon feed or recording, encoder, network connection and recurrence schedule.
- Start the encoder ahead of the event and check the preview in the Live Control Room.
- Confirm that the stream starts at the intended time, carries usable audio and video, and ends as planned.
- Run a second scheduled session to confirm the next day’s restart rather than assuming the first start proves recurrence works.
- Check the stream and archive after each run. YouTube recommends setting up in advance, checking the preview and monitoring stream quality; see YouTube Help: Live streaming tips.
Do not assume that a setup will recover unattended after an interruption or that it has failover. Verify the behavior with the actual encoder and scheduler.
Keep each stream within YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A daily stream should have a defined stop time; check that each session’s archive appears after it ends. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

Common problems and what to check

| The event appears in YouTube, but no stream starts. | Confirm the encoder or scheduler has a daily recurrence configured. A scheduled YouTube event alone does not prove recurring starts are set up. |
| The encoder cannot connect. | Check that it uses the current stream URL and key from the Live Control Room, and that the channel is eligible to stream. Keep the key private. |
| The stream starts, but the next day’s run does not. | Check the recurrence rule, time zone, end time and whether the encoder or computer remained available to run the scheduled task. Test another full cycle. |
| The preview or stream quality is poor. | Check the encoder output, source feed and network, then monitor the Live Control Room preview before the service. |
| A stream archive is missing. | Check the session duration. Streams over 12 hours may not be captured; YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. |
