You can loop a recording into a YouTube live stream at low cost using a computer you already own, free OBS Studio software, and a stable internet connection. Add the recording as an OBS Media Source, connect OBS to a YouTube encoder event with its stream key, and check the preview before you go live. The main ongoing costs to check are your internet plan and any data allowance; there is no single India-wide price or budget that applies to every connection.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled, and has had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also requires streamers to be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
- A computer that can play the recording and run OBS Studio. OBS is free and open source; download it from the OBS Project.
- A video file you have the rights to stream, and an internet connection with enough sustained upload capacity for your chosen bitrate.
Do not buy new equipment before testing what you have. A phone or computer speed test can give a rough indication, but test from the computer and connection you plan to use, preferably over a wired connection if one is available. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% of upload bandwidth unused as headroom; this is general platform guidance, not a guarantee of stable service in any particular Indian city or on any provider.
Set up the recorded video in OBS
- Install and open OBS Studio on the computer where the recording is stored.
- In the Sources box, select + and choose Media Source. Give the source a name and select OK.
- Enable Local File, browse to your recording, and select it. OBS documents support for common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. If you want the file to repeat, enable Loop. OBS describes this option as making the file play again after playback has completed; see its Media Sources documentation.
- Play the source and check that the picture fits the canvas and the audio is audible and in sync. Adjust the source to fit the canvas if needed. Check the recording from beginning to end, especially its first and last seconds, before relying on it for a long broadcast.
Looping repeats the file; it does not create new material or remove pauses, slates, or credits already in the recording. For a sequence of recordings, make a playlist in OBS and verify the order and transitions before the live event.

Create the YouTube encoder event and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream using the encoder option.
- In the event’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the event’s URL and key if OBS asks for them. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the stream details and preview workflow.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not post or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s stream settings and update OBS with the replacement.
- Where the option is available, use RTMPS, YouTube’s encrypted ingest option. Start OBS output and wait for the incoming stream preview in YouTube Studio. Inspect both picture and sound, then select Go Live in the Live Control Room when you are ready to broadcast.
Choose a resolution and bitrate your connection can sustain
Bitrate is the amount of data OBS sends each second. A higher bitrate can preserve more detail, but it also needs a stronger, steadier upload connection. YouTube advises: “Make sure that your outbound connection is enough to send your stream bitrate.” Its current H.264 encoder guidance gives these reference values:

These are YouTube’s published recommendations, not a promise that a particular internet connection will hold a stream. For YouTube’s full current encoder requirements, see Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Run a speed test on the connection you will actually stream from. YouTube recommends around 20% bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate.
- If upload speed varies, begin with a lower resolution and bitrate rather than choosing the highest setting the connection occasionally reaches. Lower motion or detail in a recording may look acceptable at a more modest bitrate; fast movement and fine detail can show compression more clearly.
- Use constant bitrate (CBR) for the encoder, H.264 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Make a private or unlisted test event with similar motion and audio before scheduling a public broadcast. Watch stream health while testing instead of relying only on a single speed-test result.
Keep the broadcast stable and end it deliberately
Keep the computer awake, OBS running, and the video file accessible for the entire broadcast. Avoid large downloads or other activities that compete for upload bandwidth. A wired Ethernet connection is worth trying if the computer and router have ports; it is a practical way to reduce reliance on Wi-Fi, not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee of better service.

Check the YouTube preview and stream-health indicators after going live, and listen for audio problems as well as checking the picture. When the broadcast is finished, end it in YouTube Studio and stop OBS output. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer continuous stream will archive in the same way. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Protect copyright and monetization eligibility
Only broadcast recordings, music, artwork, and other material you own or have permission to use for this purpose. YouTube says a live stream can be terminated for copyright or Community Guidelines strikes, and Content ID claims can be applied after a livestream if it is archived. Permission to use a recording does not by itself guarantee monetization. YouTube’s reused-content and inauthentic-content policies apply to live streams as well as other video formats. OBS itself is free, but a long broadcast uses your computer and internet connection continuously. Check your own provider’s upload performance and data allowance against the planned run time; tariffs, limits, and reliability differ by provider and location, so a universal rupee estimate would be misleading. If you already have a suitable computer and plan, the main cost may be the connection you are already paying for. If you need unattended operation, consider whether the cost of keeping a computer running and monitoring it is preferable to a cloud service.
