To make the latest event replay appear first, edit the playlist and move that recording to the top. In YouTube Studio, open Content > Playlists, choose the playlist’s menu, select Edit on YouTube, then drag the newest replay above the older recordings. YouTube’s help instructions document manual reordering, not an automatic newest-first setting for newly added live replays.

Make sure the live replay is available

A replay has to exist before you can add it to a playlist or change its position. In YouTube Studio, open Content and select the Live tab to find past live streams. Check that the archive is visible to the intended audience; its visibility can be changed in the live content’s details. YouTube’s archive instructions say streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured.

If the recording is missing

  • Confirm the stream has ended, then look under YouTube Studio > Content > Live.
  • If it ran longer than 12 hours, YouTube may not have captured it. For an important event, YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup; that backup does not change playlist order.

Put the newest replay first in the playlist

  1. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Playlists.
  2. Find the playlist containing the event recordings, open its menu, and choose Edit on YouTube.
  3. Drag the latest replay above the older recordings. YouTube’s playlist instructions describe dragging and dropping a video to reorder it.
  4. Open the public playlist and check that the intended replay is now first.

Repeat this manual update after each event. The official playlist instructions describe reordering, but do not document a setting that automatically moves each newly added live replay to the beginning.

Choose the lasting reorder, not the temporary one

You can drag videos in the playlist panel on a watch page, but that changes the order temporarily. To set the order viewers encounter when they open the playlist, edit the playlist itself. YouTube explains the playlist controls in Create and manage playlists.

Troubleshoot replay order and visibility

  • The replay does not appear in the playlist: First verify that the archive exists under Content > Live. If it does, add it to the intended playlist before reordering.
  • The new order did not stick: You may have changed the watch-page playlist panel, which is temporary. Open the playlist for editing and drag the replay there.
  • Viewers cannot see the replay: Check the archive’s visibility in its live-content details. A correct position in a playlist does not make a private archive public.

Organize recordings for viewers

Separate event archives from highlight clips when that makes the collection easier to browse, and put the most relevant recording first. YouTube recommends organizing live-stream archives and highlight clips into playlists in its live-stream promotion guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube; it does not reorder existing replays in a YouTube playlist. Upload your recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The stream runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams at one flat price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and Monthly is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free day.
