To skip every video already played today in a YouTube Live rotation, you need playback history and a scheduler that filters the playlist against that history. YouTube’s playlist-repeat control is for viewers, while OBS’s built-in VLC Video source offers loop and shuffle controls—not a documented daily playback ledger. Shuffle alone therefore cannot guarantee that a video will be skipped after it has played today.
Choose where the playlist is controlled
A YouTube Live broadcast sends video from its encoder. The playlist-repeat toggle in YouTube’s player changes how a viewer watches a video or playlist; it does not choose which files the encoder sends to the live broadcast. OBS manages playback at the broadcast end.
| Option | Where it controls playback | Playlist and order | Daily playback history |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube playlist repeat | Viewer’s YouTube player | Repeats the viewer’s playlist | No; it does not sequence the outgoing broadcast. YouTube Help |
| OBS Media Source | OBS broadcast output | Plays an individual media file | Not documented as a daily-history filter. OBS documentation |
| OBS VLC Video source | OBS broadcast output | Supports a playlist, loop, and shuffle | Not documented as storing which items played today. OBS documentation |
| Separate scheduler or custom controller | Controls or supplies the list sent to the OBS playback source | Can filter candidate items using recorded playback dates | Can implement the rule, but the specific integration depends on your setup; the documented OBS controls do not verify a ready-made integration. |
Set up an OBS playlist rotation
1. Check your source type
If OBS is playing one local file, use a Media Source. If you need a list of files, use the VLC Video source. OBS documents the VLC source for Windows, macOS, and Linux; VLC must be installed for the source to appear. For 64-bit OBS, OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.

2. Add the files and configure basic rotation
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene that feeds your live broadcast.
- In the source’s properties, add the video files to its playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist if you want the source to start over after reaching the end of the list.
- Enable Shuffle Playlist if you want OBS to randomize the playlist order.
Loop and shuffle address repetition and ordering, respectively. Neither setting is documented as excluding items that played earlier on the current date. A shuffled list can still include a video that has already aired today.

- Long battery life - half volume via wired earbuds for 25 hours music playback, 1250 mAh capacity balancing excellent convenice and function.
- Portable mp3 player - MP3 has 64 gram(2.26 oz) equivalent to 8 dollar coins, shap as a pock card.
- Formats supported - MP3, OGG, MAV, FLAC, AMR, MID, AAC, APE, etc. Compatible with ROCKBOX system by the way, what an awesome MP3 it is 🙂
- Video function - Video of 720p can be played smoothly, supproted formats inclued MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, FLV, 3GP.
Add a daily exclusion rule
To meet the exact requirement, a separate scheduler or custom controller must retain playback state and provide OBS with a filtered candidate list. The following is a design, not a verified ready-made OBS integration.
- Define “played.” Choose whether to mark an item when playback starts, when it finishes, or after it plays for a minimum duration. Starting is the simplest rule; completion avoids excluding a file that barely began before an interruption.
- Record each item with a date. When the chosen playback event occurs, save the item identifier and the date. Use one consistent time zone so the daily reset happens when you expect.
- Build the eligible list. Before selecting the next item, compare the playlist with today’s records and remove items that meet your definition of already played.
- Feed the filtered list to playback. Have the scheduler update or supply the candidate playlist used by the OBS source. The exact method depends on the playback environment and the controller you choose.
- Decide what happens when nothing remains. If every item is recorded for today, the scheduler needs a rule: stop, wait for the next day, or allow a repeat. Allowing repeats means the strict skip-today requirement no longer applies.
- Test the date boundary and interruptions. Check that records reset on the intended day, and verify what happens after OBS or the computer restarts. A scheduler that loses its history on restart cannot reliably enforce the daily rule.
These steps follow from the difference between the requested date-based state and OBS’s documented loop and shuffle controls. The OBS documentation does not establish a built-in daily exclusion feature. The OBS Media Playlist Source plugin listing is a separate plugin reference, not evidence that it provides daily playback history.

Troubleshoot common rotation problems
- The VLC Video source is missing: Install VLC, then reopen or refresh OBS. Match VLC’s architecture to OBS; OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- A video repeats even with Shuffle Playlist enabled: Shuffle changes order; it is not a played-today exclusion rule. Add a scheduler that records playback dates and filters the candidates.
- The playlist does not restart after the final file: Check that Loop Playlist is enabled in the VLC Video source properties.
- Videos appear to repeat after midnight: Check the time zone and reset boundary used by the scheduler. The daily rule is only as consistent as the date used for its records.
- A partially played video is unexpectedly excluded or allowed again: Revisit your definition of “played” and whether the scheduler records the start, completion, or a minimum duration.
- You changed YouTube’s playlist-repeat setting but the live broadcast did not change: That setting controls viewer-side playback, not the encoder’s broadcast sequence.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream live from uploaded videos, but it does not document a daily played-video history or a rule that skips files already played today. Use the scheduler approach above if that exact behavior is essential.
