To make a YouTube gaming VOD rerun move automatically from one prerecorded video to the next, build the sequence in OBS Studio with a VLC Video source. Add the VOD files in order, keep Shuffle off, and enable Loop Playlist only if you want the sequence to start over after the last video. YouTube does not control this sequence: OBS sends the selected media to your live event.
If by “resume” you mean a viewer pausing and continuing playback, that is YouTube DVR. It resumes that viewer’s playback position in the same live stream; it does not advance the broadcast to another VOD.
Choose the playback behavior you need

OBS’s Media Source is suited to one local video; VLC Video provides a playlist for multiple files. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to be available. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

Set up an ordered multi-video rerun in OBS
- Prepare the VOD files. Keep the local video files accessible to the computer running OBS. Decide the exact playback order before building the list.
- Add a VLC Video source. In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene that will feed the live broadcast. Add the gaming VOD files to its playlist and arrange them in the order you want. The VLC Video source is unavailable until VLC is installed.
- Keep Shuffle Playlist off. Shuffle can change the order, so leave it disabled when the sequence matters.
- Choose whether to repeat the whole list. Enable Loop Playlist if playback should return to the first VOD after the final one. Leave it off for a single pass through the list.
- Check the scene and playlist. Preview the source and confirm the intended video appears. Check that files advance in the expected order and that audio is present before relying on a long rerun.
- Configure the YouTube live event separately. In YouTube Studio or the Live Control Room, create or schedule the event, then connect OBS with the event’s stream URL and key. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options govern broadcast controls; they do not select or sequence the media. Studio labels and available options can change, so check the current event settings in your account. See YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.
- Confirm the encoder feed reaches YouTube. Before leaving a rerun unattended, verify that the event receives OBS’s stream and that the correct source, video order, and audio are going out.
Repeat one VOD instead of a playlist
For a single local recording, add an OBS Media Source and enable its Loop property. When that file ends, OBS plays it again. This setting repeats one file; it does not queue multiple videos. Use the VLC Video playlist method when you need a sequence of VODs.

What YouTube “resume” does—and does not do
YouTube DVR is a viewer-side control: where available, a viewer can pause or rewind a live stream and continue from that viewer’s playback position. It does not tell OBS to move to the next local file. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable on live streams longer than 12 hours; availability can also depend on the stream configuration and viewing device. Viewers cannot seek to a point before the live stream began. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
YouTube’s playlist loop control applies to a viewer watching a YouTube playlist, and Autoplay can play another related video after one ends. Neither is a dependable way to feed your chosen local gaming VOD files, in order, into a live encoder. Use OBS to control the outgoing broadcast sequence. Troubleshoot the common failure points
- VLC Video is missing in OBS: install VLC, then check OBS’s source options again.
- The files play in the wrong order: reorder them in the VLC Video playlist and make sure Shuffle Playlist is off.
- The sequence stops after the final VOD: enable Loop Playlist if you want it to repeat. If you want only one pass, stopping at the end is expected.
- The same VOD repeats instead of advancing: check that you added a VLC Video playlist for multiple files rather than using a looping Media Source for one file.
- YouTube is live but viewers see the wrong content: check the active OBS scene and source preview, then verify that the YouTube event is receiving the intended encoder feed.
- There is no audio: check the source’s audio and OBS’s audio meters, then verify that sound reaches the YouTube event before leaving it unattended.
- A viewer cannot resume far back in a long stream: DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours, and device or stream settings can affect availability.
Copyright and reused-content checks for gaming VODs
Before rerunning a recording, make sure you have the rights needed for the game footage, music, and any other included material. A game’s publisher or a music rights holder may set terms that differ from your expectations; a previous upload or successful stream does not by itself establish permission for a new rerun. Review YouTube’s current policies and the relevant rights-holder terms before broadcasting or monetizing the content. Repeating material does not change who owns it or whether you may use it.
