You need a verified, eligible channel; a microphone is optional if you are playing a prepared recording.
Choose how to provide the nature sound

Choose a visual that reflects the source: a camera view for a live scene, or a still or looping visual for prepared audio. These are creative choices, not YouTube requirements.
Check channel eligibility and recording rights
Confirm live streaming is available
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Confirm your account’s current status and feature availability in YouTube Studio before you build or schedule the broadcast. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console options; an encoder is the flexible choice for combining prepared audio with a visual or using external audio equipment.
Clear the audio for live use
Use recordings you made yourself or have permission to stream. Do not assume a recording is cleared because it is described as “royalty-free,” is publicly accessible, or was usable in another context. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams describes enforcement that can affect broadcasts. For protected music, YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor. Neither source determines whether a specific sound-effects library, field recording, or license covers your planned use. Keep permission records and check that they explicitly cover live streaming.

Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open the Stream tab. Create a stream the first time; settings from a previous broadcast may load on later streams.
- To create a watch page in advance, open Manage and select Schedule Stream. Scheduling gives you a page to promote and lets viewers set reminders. You will still need to return to Live Control Room to preview and start the broadcast.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in your scene, share it publicly, or include it in instructions.

Connect an encoder and start streaming
- Open your streaming encoder and choose YouTube if it is offered as a destination. Otherwise, paste the server URL from Studio into the encoder’s server field.
- Paste the YouTube stream key into the encoder’s stream-key field. Set the audio input to your live microphone or the prepared recording playback, and add the chosen visual.
- Start the encoder’s stream output. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, check it, then select Go live. For an immediate stream, follow the on-screen Live Control Room prompts after the encoder connects.
- When the broadcast is over, stop the encoder output. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
YouTube describes encoders as software or hardware and notes they can work with external audio and video equipment. A USB microphone is therefore an optional route for live ambience or speech—not a requirement when a prepared recording supplies the audio.

Test the sound and monitor the stream
YouTube recommends choosing quality that your internet connection can sustain, testing upload speed, and rehearsing with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast. Its encoder settings and stream-health guidance explains the general quality and monitoring considerations; it does not prescribe a nature-sounds format.
- Listen to the prepared recording or microphone feed and confirm that it is audible and not clipped.
- Check that the audio continues as expected and that the visual is present in the encoder output.
- Review the Live Control Room preview before sharing the watch-page link.
- While live, monitor stream health and respond to messages shown in Live Control Room.
Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: check channel verification, live-stream restrictions, age eligibility, and feature availability in YouTube Studio before troubleshooting the encoder.
- The preview does not appear: confirm that the encoder is sending output to YouTube, that the server URL is correct, and that the stream key matches the one shown for this broadcast. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in Studio and update the encoder.
- The sound is missing or distorted: confirm the encoder is using the intended microphone or playback source, check that the source is producing audio, and listen for clipping in the preview. For a prepared track, verify that playback continues rather than ending unexpectedly.
- The stream health reports a problem: check upload speed and reduce stream quality if the connection cannot sustain the chosen setting. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health rather than assuming a connection will remain reliable.
- A copyright issue interrupts the broadcast: review the notice and the permissions for the recording. A live stream is not exempt from copyright enforcement, and permission for one type of use does not establish permission for live streaming.
Understand monetization limits
YouTube says eligible creators may monetize live streams with ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and channel memberships. When live-stream monetization is enabled, pre-roll and display ads turn on; mid-roll ads may be automatic or manual. YouTube does not guarantee that ad slots will serve, and these features are conditional on channel eligibility. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance for details.
