To run a continuous fireplace stream on YouTube, use fireplace video and audio you have the right to livestream, loop the media in an encoder, connect that encoder to a YouTube Live event with its stream URL and key, then check the preview and stream health. The encoder, computer, and internet connection must stay available for a do-it-yourself stream; if YouTube drops the feed, you may need to restore it. First-time live-streaming access can take up to 24 hours to activate.
Before you start: clear the footage and sound
Use footage and audio that you created or are properly licensed to use on YouTube. Check that the license covers livestreaming and the relevant territories, and keep a copy of the permission or license. Rights to the video do not automatically establish rights to its soundtrack.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If it detects a match, it may replace the live picture with a placeholder and warn you; leaving the matched material in place can result in interruption or termination. A strike can also end a live stream, and an archived stream may receive a Content ID claim after the event. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist your channel before you stream: licensed material can still trigger an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. YouTube’s livestream terms put the rights obligation on the content provider: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the livestream terms and get appropriate permission before going live.

What you need
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- A video file or playlist that your encoder can loop, with playback tested from the end back to the beginning.
- An encoder that can send a stream to YouTube using its stream URL and stream key.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the chosen video bitrate, plus headroom.
- Rights to all video and audio you broadcast.
YouTube documents how to connect an encoder, but loop controls vary by software; use the encoder’s own documentation for its playback or playlist settings. You do not need expensive hardware merely to create a loop, but a do-it-yourself setup does depend on the encoder device and connection remaining available.
Set up and start the stream
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live. If prompted to enable live streaming, complete the steps and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, then set its title, privacy, and other metadata. Use a scheduled event if you want to prepare the page ahead of time. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the connection workflow.
- Copy the ingest details. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it could send a feed to your event. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Choose a looping source. Add the fireplace file or playlist as the encoder’s playback source and enable looping there. Test the transition from the end to the beginning, including whether it creates a black frame, a pause, a sudden sound change, or an abrupt cut. The exact control depends on the encoder you use.
- Set the video output. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings for the resolution and frame rate you intend to send. For conventional SDR, YouTube lists H.264 and CBR among supported or recommended settings, recommends a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Its table gives 2 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps; use the current table for other formats rather than treating that example as a universal bitrate.
- Use RTMPS when available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension to RTMP, for encoder ingestion. Its settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 in relevant RTMP/RTMPS workflows and supports up to 60 fps. Set the codec and bitrate to match your chosen output and the encoder’s capabilities.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start sending the feed early enough to see it in Live Control Room before the event begins. Confirm that the fireplace image appears, the audio is at a suitable level, the loop behaves as expected, and Live Control Room reports healthy stream status.
- Go live and keep monitoring. Start the event through the encoder or Live Control Room as appropriate for your setup. Watch stream health and audio/video quality rather than assuming that a successful initial connection guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.
Keep the stream stable
Your upload capacity must exceed the stream’s video and audio bitrate. YouTube recommends about 20% spare upload bandwidth; for example, a stream using a given bitrate should not consume all the connection’s available upload capacity. A broadband plan’s advertised speed may not reflect upload performance at your location, and other people or devices sharing the connection can reduce what is available to the encoder. - Measure the connection under the conditions in which you plan to stream, including expected household or office use.
- Where practical, connect the encoder computer to the router by Ethernet and avoid large uploads or other bandwidth-heavy activity during the stream.
- Choose a bitrate the measured connection can sustain with YouTube’s recommended headroom; lower the output bitrate or resolution if it cannot.
- Keep the encoder device powered and prevent sleep or automatic shutdown for the duration of a local stream.
- If you record a local backup, check that the archive file is intact and continues to grow while streaming. Local recording is optional, not a YouTube requirement.
YouTube warns that connection disruptions can break a stream. Test the entire setup before relying on it for a long broadcast, and monitor Live Control Room for stream-health warnings.
Copyright permission is not monetization approval
Having permission to use a fireplace video does not guarantee that a channel or stream will qualify for monetization. YouTube expects monetized content to be original and authentic; repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible. Its reused-content rules may apply even when you have permission to use the underlying footage. A channel built from minimally varied loops of third-party fireplace videos therefore carries both rights and monetization risks. Add meaningful original value and make clear what is your own production, but do not assume any particular stream will be monetized.

YouTube’s monetization policy notes that on July 15, 2025 it clarified and renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content.” Check the current channel monetization policies and your channel’s eligibility rather than relying on the length of a stream as a route to monetization.
Troubleshoot common problems
