To keep an ASMR fabric-sounds stream live on YouTube, capture original fabric audio with a microphone, send it through an encoder such as OBS Studio, and monitor the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Your computer and internet connection must stay available for the DIY method. If you want the stream to continue with your computer off, StreamNeo can loop uploaded recordings from the cloud.

What you need for a continuous fabric-sounds stream

  • Original audio: Record fabric handling sounds you created or have permission to use. A microphone captures the sound; YouTube lists microphones and preamps among hardware used with encoder streams.
  • An encoder and computer: OBS Studio is one option for combining an audio input with a visual scene and sending the feed to YouTube. Its official help portal covers streaming and audio configuration.
  • A reliable connection and power: For a DIY stream, the computer running the encoder and its network connection need to remain available throughout the broadcast.
  • A visual: Choose a simple, stable scene, or show the fabric handling. Keep the microphone position and sound source consistent so the audio remains intentional.

No single microphone type, model, resolution, bitrate, codec, or network setting is established as best for this use. Choose settings your computer and connection can sustain, then test the actual setup before going public.

Set up and start the stream with an encoder

  1. Check YouTube Live access. YouTube’s current Help guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube supports encoder streaming as one of its live-streaming methods. See YouTube’s guide to getting started with live streaming.
  2. Prepare your audio and scene. Connect the microphone to the computer or audio interface, select it as an input in OBS, and build a scene with the fabric visuals you want viewers to see. Adjust the input so the sound is clear and does not distort. OBS’s official help portal includes streaming and audio guidance.
  3. Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create or schedule the broadcast, and select encoder streaming if prompted. Copy the stream key from YouTube Studio and enter it in the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it.
  4. Preview before going public. Start the encoder feed and check the Live Control Room preview and status. Listen for noise, clipping, silence, or inconsistent levels; confirm that the visual is correct. Use a private or unlisted test if you want to check the full setup without a public broadcast.
  5. Go live and monitor status. Once the incoming feed looks right, start the broadcast in the Live Control Room. Keep an eye on stream status and warnings, and check the audio and connection during the session.

Plan for a long or overnight broadcast

YouTube’s API documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast scenario in which video continues while broadcasts are managed; API automation is not required for a creator to run an encoder stream. In a normal DIY setup, the practical requirement is that the encoder continues sending video and audio and that you can respond if YouTube reports a problem.

Consider whether viewers need to rewind while the broadcast is live and whether you need an archive afterward. YouTube Help’s surfaced guidance says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Because the current canonical Help page for that detail is not established here, check the DVR setting and current guidance in Live Control Room rather than treating 12 hours as a guaranteed cutoff.

Use audio and visuals you have the right to stream

YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A detected match can cause YouTube to replace the live stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. For fabric ASMR, original recordings and visuals are the clearest way to avoid relying on someone else’s work.

If you use licensed third-party material, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license alone may not prevent a live interruption. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and confirm that your permissions cover live use.

Troubleshooting common problems

  • You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified and has not had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, then review the Live Control Room for account or broadcast notices.
  • YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that the correct stream key is in the encoder, the broadcast is set up for encoder streaming, and the encoder is actually sending. If needed, copy the key again from the Live Control Room without exposing it.
  • The stream is live but there is no fabric audio: Check that the intended microphone or interface is selected as the encoder input, that it is not muted, and that its level moves when you make sound. Confirm the input is routed to the active scene and broadcast mix.
  • The sound is distorted or uneven: Reduce input gain if the signal clips, reposition the microphone or fabric, and check levels again in a test. Avoid changing several variables at once so you can identify what fixed the problem.
  • The broadcast stops or warns about content: Check YouTube’s Live Control Room notice. A third-party-content match may interrupt or terminate a stream; remove material you do not control or confirm that the rights owner has handled any required Content ID allowlisting.
  • Viewers cannot rewind or find the archive: Review DVR and archive behavior in the Live Control Room, especially for broadcasts lasting more than 12 hours, where DVR may be limited or unavailable.
