Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo resume a 4K 60fps YouTube Live loop after a power outage, every part of the recovery chain must work: power must return to the PC, the PC must boot, the encoder must start, the network must be ready, and YouTube must accept the feed. Set up and test each step; YouTube’s auto-start setting alone cannot turn a powered-off computer back on.
Choose between riding through an outage and restarting afterward
A UPS can keep a streaming PC and network equipment running through a short interruption, or provide time for an orderly shutdown. Its protection lasts only as long as its battery can supply the connected load. If the battery runs down, the UPS may switch off; it cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast during a long outage. Schneider Electric explains the conditions for restarting a computer after a UPS shuts off and utility power returns: APC Back-UPS restart guidance.
Automatic recovery after power returns is a separate setup. It depends on firmware, operating-system startup, encoder behavior, network readiness, and YouTube’s stream workflow. There is no universal recovery time or guarantee for this chain.
Set up the PC and encoder to restart
1. Enable power-on after AC returns
In the PC’s BIOS or UEFI, look for a setting such as “Restore AC Power Loss” or “AC Power Recovery.” Names and options differ by manufacturer and model. For example, ASUS documents “Power On” and “Last State” options and shows “Power Off” as the default in its example. Choose the behavior that fits your setup, save the firmware change, and test it. See ASUS’s Restore AC Power Loss instructions.

The PC must support this behavior. Schneider Electric notes that the relevant BIOS power-on feature must be supported and enabled for a computer to boot when power returns after the UPS has switched off.
2. Arrange automatic operating-system and OBS startup
Configure the operating system to launch OBS after boot or sign-in. A March 2024 OBS forum answer describes placing an OBS shortcut in Windows Startup or using Task Scheduler, and adding --startstreaming to the shortcut target. This is community guidance, not a guarantee that the option or exact procedure works in every current OBS version. Check the current software behavior and test it before relying on it: OBS community discussion of autostart after reboot.
Make sure OBS opens the intended profile, scene, source, and stream configuration. A saved configuration is only useful if the right one loads and its video source is available after reboot.

3. Allow for a late network connection
The modem, router, or upstream internet connection may take longer to recover than the PC. In the cited OBS discussion, a community answer cautions that auto-reconnect may not help if the initial connection attempt fails. Do not assume that launching OBS once, immediately at boot, will recover every outage. Configure a suitable delay or retry method for your system, then test what happens when the network becomes available after OBS starts.
Configure YouTube Live and verify the stream workflow
In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, set up the stream and provide OBS with the correct stream key. YouTube says a custom stream key can be reused. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance covers stream settings, including auto-start and auto-stop.
Auto-start and auto-stop control whether the encoder can start or stop a YouTube broadcast; neither setting powers on a PC or makes the network ready. After encoder startup, check Live Control Room to see whether YouTube has received the feed and whether your selected workflow still requires you to click “Go live.” A configured stream key and an open encoder do not, by themselves, establish that the public broadcast is live.

Set the encoder for 4K at 60 fps
Choose settings that match the codec you are actually sending. YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports up to 60 fps and lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, with four seconds as the maximum. Confirm the current requirements in YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table before configuring a particular encoder.
| Codec | YouTube’s recommended bitrate for 2160p at 60 fps | YouTube’s minimum bitrate for 2160p at 60 fps |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published settings recommendations, not independent benchmark results or a promise that a connection will hold a stream. Do not apply the H.264 bitrate to an AV1 or H.265 stream, or vice versa. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; measure and plan for the sustained upload available to the streaming location, not just a headline speed-test result. YouTube also warns that network disruption can break a stream. Its 4K streams are optimized for normal latency; the low-latency option is unavailable for 4K. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Test the complete recovery chain before relying on it
- Check the normal stream first. Start the encoder, preview the feed in Live Control Room, confirm stream health, and verify the source is looping as intended.
- Check the local recording plan. If you are recording locally, confirm that the archive file is being created and growing. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup.
- Test encoder failover separately if you have a backup encoder. YouTube describes testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable. That tests a configured backup encoder; it does not prove a single PC will restart automatically after a power outage.
- Run a controlled power-recovery test. With the actual PC, router, source, UPS, encoder, and YouTube configuration in place, simulate the kind of outage you want to recover from. Confirm power restoration, PC boot, OBS startup, network availability, YouTube feed reception, and the final broadcast state. Keep the test controlled so a failure does not interrupt an important live session.
YouTube’s preparation and failover advice is in its streaming tips. It does not establish that a single-computer setup will resume automatically after a building-wide outage.

Plan for YouTube’s live archive limit
YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream when the stream is less than 12 hours long, including streams at 1440p and 2160p. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a continuous loop, do not treat one uninterrupted broadcast as a guaranteed permanent YouTube archive; plan local recording and session management if keeping a complete recording matters. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
Common recovery failures and what to check
- The PC stays off after power returns: Check whether the motherboard supports the feature and whether the AC-recovery setting is enabled. Review the manufacturer’s firmware instructions.
- The PC boots, but OBS does not: Verify the startup entry or scheduled task, the Windows account and sign-in conditions, and that OBS opens the intended profile. Test the startup behavior rather than assuming the shortcut option is supported in your installed version.
- OBS opens but cannot connect: The router or internet connection may not be ready yet. Check network recovery timing and configure a delay or retry approach; an immediate failed first attempt may not be recovered by reconnect behavior alone.
- YouTube receives the feed, but the broadcast does not appear live: Check Live Control Room, stream-key selection, and whether the workflow requires an operator to press “Go live.” Auto-start does not resolve power or connectivity failures.
- The stream disconnects at 4K60: Confirm the encoder’s codec-specific bitrate, CBR setting, keyframe interval, and sustained upload headroom. A connection interruption can break the stream even when the encoder settings are correct.
- The YouTube archive is incomplete or missing: Check the stream’s duration. YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior applies to streams under 12 hours; longer streams may not be captured.
