Yes—you can run a 24/7 YouTube music stream with OBS from India, but it depends on a computer, power supply and internet connection that can keep sending data continuously. There is no single upload-speed threshold that works for every Indian connection. Measure sustained upload at the actual streaming location, choose a YouTube-recommended bitrate your connection can handle with room to spare, and test the full setup before making it public. Also clear music rights for both the livestream and its replay: a stream can be interrupted even when you have a licence.
What you need for an always-on OBS stream
OBS sends your audio and video to YouTube from the computer running OBS. For a continuous broadcast, that computer, its network path and its power supply all have to keep working. A temporary disconnect, power cut, encoder crash or rights warning can interrupt the stream.
- A YouTube channel with live-streaming access enabled. Start the activation process in YouTube Studio well before launch and follow the prompts shown for your account; eligibility and activation details can change.
- OBS installed on a computer that can encode your chosen resolution and frame rate continuously.
- A stable internet connection with sustained upload capacity above the stream’s configured bitrate.
- Music you are entitled to use in a live broadcast and, if applicable, its archived replay.
- A plan for monitoring the stream and responding if it stops. An unattended setup is not automatically a resilient one.
Keep your YouTube stream key private. Anyone who gets it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP, when configuring an encoder.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteHow much upload speed do you need in India?
Base the choice on the bitrate you intend to send, not a nationwide rule of thumb. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends different bitrates for different resolutions and frame rates, while OBS notes that dropped frames and intermittent disconnections point to a network problem between the computer and the streaming service. Neither establishes one upload-speed minimum for all Indian creators, ISPs or locations.

Measure your connection at the stream location
- Connect the streaming computer to the router and run several upload-speed tests at different times, including the hours you plan to broadcast.
- Check that results stay reasonably stable rather than relying on one peak result. Where practical, use wired Ethernet between the computer and router to remove one source of wireless variability.
- Choose a bitrate below the sustained upload capacity. Leave room for normal variation and other household traffic; a connection that only just matches the encoder bitrate is a poor basis for an unattended stream.
- Check your broadband plan’s terms and ask the ISP about sustained upload, data limits or fair-use conditions for your specific service address.
For scale, a stream sending about 4 Mbps transfers roughly 43.2 GB of data in 24 hours, and one sending about 10 Mbps transfers roughly 108 GB. These are bitrate-based estimates before network overhead, not measurements of an Indian ISP or a guarantee of the total shown on your bill. Check how your plan counts usage.
If the stream is unstable, lower the bitrate first and test again. Do not assume that a speed-test result guarantees a reliable route from your home to YouTube’s ingest server.
Choose resolution, frame rate and encoder settings
For a mostly static music visual, 30 fps is a sensible starting point. Select the highest resolution your measured connection can reliably sustain; a higher setting is not automatically better for a simple visual if it makes the connection or encoder less stable.

| Video setting | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate | When it may suit a music stream |
|---|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | A lower-bandwidth starting point; choose a specific resolution within this range in OBS. |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | Useful when the visual genuinely benefits from smoother motion and the connection can sustain it. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | A sharper static or slowly changing visual, if upload capacity is stable at this rate. |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps | For motion that benefits from 60 fps; it requires more sustained upload than 1080p30. |
These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 figures, not guaranteed service levels. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1, but its guidance gives those codecs different minimum/maximum bitrate ranges rather than the same H.264 recommendation column. Check the current YouTube encoder-settings guidance before using those ranges; do not transfer an H.264 value to another codec or resolution.
Set the output in OBS
- Open Settings > Output. Set Output Mode to Advanced if needed, then open the Streaming tab.
- Choose a video encoder supported by your computer and YouTube. YouTube’s listed video codecs are H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1. For H.264, set rate control to CBR and use the matching bitrate from the table.
- Set Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Open Settings > Audio and select a sample rate of 44.1 kHz for stereo output. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends 128 kbps for stereo.
- Open Settings > Video and set the output resolution and frame rate you chose. Confirm that the final output—not only the canvas—is the intended resolution.
- In the stream service settings, select YouTube and use the stream key supplied through YouTube Studio. Use RTMPS if offered by the current OBS and YouTube setup.
YouTube’s recommended settings are starting points. Match the bitrate to the actual connection and test the chosen combination rather than treating any setting as a promise of uninterrupted operation.
Prepare the music and visual in OBS
Build a scene that can run without manual interaction. Add the audio source or media playlist you intend to broadcast and a still image, video loop or other visual you have rights to use. Check that the music actually advances or loops as intended, that the audio is audible without clipping, and that the visual does not unexpectedly disappear when a file ends.

OBS layouts and labels can vary by version and operating system. The essential checks are that the correct sources are visible in the active scene, audio meters move when playback is active, and the selected streaming output uses the settings you tested. If you are using multiple tracks or files, verify their order and transitions in a test rather than discovering a silent gap during the public stream.

- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then connect OBS as the encoder. Keep the broadcast private or unlisted for the test where those visibility options are available.
- Run the same audio processing, visual motion, scene changes, bitrate and network path planned for the real program. A test with a still screen and no sound does not verify a music broadcast.
- Check OBS’s connection status and dropped-frame count, then check YouTube’s stream-health information. Listen for clipping, silence, sync problems and unexpected gaps.
- Keep the OBS window and YouTube’s live dashboard accessible during launch. If dropped frames increase or the connection disconnects, lower the bitrate and investigate the network path, router, firewall or security software.
- For unattended operation, decide who or what will notice and respond to a stopped stream, power loss, internet failure, encoder crash or rights warning. A backup connection and a UPS for the computer and router are optional resilience measures, not guarantees of uninterrupted service.
Plan for interruptions and YouTube archives
A continuous stream and a complete replay archive are different goals. YouTube may automatically archive streams under 12 hours, but it warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the full program matters, do not rely on one 24-hour broadcast to produce a complete YouTube replay.
Consider scheduling shorter broadcasts and maintaining a local recording as a separate backup. Decide how to handle transitions between sessions and confirm your channel’s current workflow supports them. YouTube does not specify a universal restart cadence for this purpose. If the broadcast drops, diagnose the cause before restarting: simply reconnecting without fixing a weak network path or another underlying failure can lead to another interruption.

Clear music rights before streaming
You need rights for music used in the live transmission and, if you plan to keep a replay, its archive. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; it may replace audio or interrupt or terminate a broadcast. YouTube also cautions that “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the content.” Ask the rights holder or licensing service whether your channel needs to be allowlisted.
Before going live, confirm that the permission covers all of the following:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Live streaming, not just uploading a standard recorded video.
- Archived or on-demand replay, if you will retain one.
- Your intended territories and the YouTube channel that will broadcast the music.
- Monetization, if you intend to earn revenue from the stream.
- Continuous playback, looping or playlist use, if that is part of your format.
- Any Content ID allowlisting requirement and how it will be completed.
“Royalty-free,” “free to download,” or a purchase does not by itself establish permission for a continuous livestream and its replay. A description label does not prevent Content ID detection. Check the actual licence terms. YouTube identifies its Audio Library as a source of copyright-safe music, but check each track’s applicable terms for your intended use. Creator Music licensing and revenue-sharing tracks are not a solution for livestreams; YouTube’s guidance says those tracks cannot be used in live streams and that expansion beyond US creators in the YouTube Partner Program is pending.

Understand monetization separately from copyright
Permission to use a song answers a rights question; it does not guarantee that a channel or stream will qualify for YouTube Partner Program monetization. YouTube applies monetization policies to livestreams. Its July 15, 2025 policy notice clarified “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content,” describing repetitive or mass-produced content as ineligible. Reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement.
YouTube’s examples include collections of songs from different artists as content that can violate reused-content policy even when the creator has permission. Original composition, meaningful curation, distinctive visuals or context, and the channel’s overall original contribution may matter in a channel review, but none guarantees acceptance.
