You can use VLC to play authorized MP4 cartoons in order and repeat the playlist, but getting that playback onto YouTube is a separate job: an encoder must send the video to the stream URL and stream key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Because VLC’s current menu names and a reliable YouTube-compatible output route depend on the installed version and were not verified here, test your exact setup before relying on it for a long broadcast.
How the VLC-to-YouTube workflow fits together
Think of the setup as two connected stages:
- Local playback: VLC plays your MP4 files in the order you choose and repeats them if you enable looping.
- Live delivery: an encoder sends that playback to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room.
YouTube documents an encoder-based workflow, but this does not establish that every VLC version can send a compatible, dependable live stream by itself. Check the documentation for your installed VLC version and confirm that your chosen output path supports YouTube’s ingest requirements. Prepare and test the VLC playlist
Check the cartoons and their audio rights
Use MP4 cartoons that you are authorized to broadcast. Include the soundtrack and any other embedded audio in your rights check. For monetization, YouTube says creators need the rights required for commercial use of the visual and audio elements; see What kind of content can I monetize?.

Arrange and verify playback
- Put the files in the order you want viewers to see them.
- In your installed VLC version, build a playlist and play it through once. Confirm that each file advances in the intended order and that audio plays correctly.
- If you want the cartoons to repeat, enable the playlist-repeat behavior available in that version and test the end-to-start transition.
- Check your VLC version’s own documentation for the exact controls. Menu names and playlist behavior are version-specific and are not established here.
This verifies local playback only. It does not prove that VLC can transmit that playback to YouTube; test the complete output route before scheduling or starting a long broadcast.

Connect an encoder to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the encoder you have verified can accept your VLC playback. Treat the key like a password: do not share it, and reset it if it is exposed. YouTube’s instructions are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Use the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room when your encoder supports it. YouTube describes RTMPS as the encrypted form of RTMP; follow Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Start the encoder and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room. Check picture and sound there before going live. For scheduled encoder streams, YouTube says you can start after the preview appears; consult its current live streaming tips and encoder instructions for the applicable flow.
Choose encoder settings that fit the source and connection
Use the source’s resolution and frame rate rather than selecting a higher output that cannot add detail. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for video; AAC or MP3 for audio; constant bitrate encoding; frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed 4 seconds. The appropriate bitrate depends on your chosen format and resolution. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
As one reference point, YouTube lists 2 Mbps video bitrate and 3 Mbps recommended upload speed for 720p at 30 fps. That is guidance, not a guarantee of reliable delivery: test your actual connection with similar picture motion and audio, and leave capacity for a stable stream. Run a speed test, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and monitor stream health while broadcasting.

Keep the stream monitored and understand the 24/7 limits
A local VLC-and-encoder setup depends on the computer, software processes, network, and power staying available. YouTube’s tips recommend continuously monitoring audio/video quality and stream health; they do not promise that a consumer computer or VLC process will remain online uninterrupted for 24 hours. Check playback, audio, connection, and the live preview during operation, and have a plan to restart the encoder if it stops.

Copyright, interruptions, and monetization
Live copyright checks can interrupt playback
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects such material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you to stop, and temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the material remains. A rights holder may need to add your licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent an interruption. Review Copyright issues with live streams before broadcasting.
Permission does not guarantee monetization eligibility
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and can make highly repetitive or interchangeable channel content ineligible. Its reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement, so permission to stream a cartoon does not by itself mean the channel will qualify for monetization. Troubleshoot common setup problems
