To stream ocean sounds on YouTube around the clock, build a scene with a still image and an ocean recording you own or are licensed to use, then send it to YouTube through an encoder using your stream URL and key. Test the sound and stream health before launch. If you want a saved replay, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not promise a complete archive for a single 24-hour broadcast.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days; first-time enablement can take time. Check the current account interface before scheduling your launch.
- An encoder, such as streaming software on a computer or a hardware encoder. YouTube’s workflow uses an encoder to send the feed to its live service.
- A still image and ocean-sound recording that you created or have permission to use for live transmission and any replay or commercial use you intend.
- A stable internet connection and a plan for monitoring and recovery if the encoder, power, or network fails.
A static image is simply the visual source in the encoder scene; it is not a special YouTube streaming mode. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not promise special policy treatment or monetization approval for still-image ambience streams.
Prepare the image and ocean audio
Check the image and sound
Choose an image with the same aspect ratio as the stream canvas so it fills the frame without unwanted bars or cropping. Prepare a seamless or carefully edited ocean-sound loop, keep its level consistent, and listen through the loop boundary with headphones. Check for clicks, abrupt gaps, clipping, or unintended silence. These are production checks, not YouTube requirements.

Use media you created or a license that expressly covers the uses you plan: live streaming, any saved replay, commercial use if relevant, and required attribution. “Royalty-free” by itself does not establish that every use is allowed. The license for a particular recording or image must be checked individually.

Build an encoder scene with a static image
- Create a scene in your streaming software or encoder.
- Add the still image as a visual source and fit it to the canvas.
- Add the ocean recording as an audio source. If the software supports looping, enable it and listen to at least one repeat.
- Check the audio meter while the image is displayed. The picture will not move, so confirm the sound is playing by listening and watching the meter.
- Save the scene and confirm the encoder is using the intended resolution, frame rate, and audio source.
Menu names vary by encoder, so use its source controls to add an image and an audio file or playlist; the YouTube setup is completed separately in Live Control Room.
Create the YouTube live event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then use the Stream tab to create or configure the live event.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the event into the corresponding destination and key fields in your encoder. The URL is the feed destination; the key allows YouTube to accept the feed.
- Treat the stream key like a password. If someone else obtains it, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder with the new key.
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview in Live Control Room. Check the image, audio, and stream-health status before selecting the control to go live.

Choose stable encoder settings
These are YouTube’s listed settings for supported RTMP/RTMPS ingest. Recommendations can change, so check YouTube’s current encoder table before publishing.

Choose a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain continuously, with headroom for normal network variation. YouTube’s values are recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular connection or encoder will remain stable. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Test before you announce the stream
- Make a private or unlisted test event and start the encoder.
- In Live Control Room, check the preview and stream-health panel for ingest errors.
- Listen on the broadcast playback from another device and, if possible, another connection. Confirm the ocean audio is audible, steady, and not clipping, and that the image is framed correctly.
- Test the actual encoder and audio setup you intend to use. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream.
- For unattended operation, simulate a realistic interruption: restart the encoder and router, then verify the steps needed to resume. If you have a backup encoder, test stopping the primary or disconnecting its network connection and confirm that your backup procedure works.
YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality throughout the broadcast. Its YouTube live streaming tips also cover testing failover and monitoring.
Can a YouTube live stream run for 24 hours, and will it be archived?
You can plan an encoder broadcast to run continuously, but YouTube’s guidance does not guarantee that one uninterrupted 24-hour stream will be retained as a complete replay. YouTube states that all streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If having a replay matters, schedule sessions shorter than 12 hours and check the resulting archive after each session. Plan the handoff between sessions to minimize dead air, and verify the current Live Control Room behavior before relying on it.

Plan for outages
A 24/7 schedule depends on power, internet, and the encoder continuing to operate. Arrange alerts or periodic checks, document how to restart the encoder, and decide how a backup or failover will take over. YouTube’s failover advice is a testing practice, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.

YouTube’s reviewed material does not establish that this format will be accepted for monetization or settle how a particular channel’s reused-content review will be handled. Do not assume that a static image and background audio qualify for monetization.
YouTube’s page about Content ID matching for live streams concerns eligible partners using YouTube Studio Content Manager and a specialized rights-matching feature. Its global-rights and exclusive-ownership requirements apply to that feature; they should not be treated as a universal rule that every creator must exclusively own every element.
