To run a 24/7 YouTube Live stream of crackling campfire sounds, prepare an original or properly licensed audio-and-visual loop, send it through an encoder such as OBS, and monitor YouTube’s stream health. Your channel must be verified and eligible for live streaming; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. For a computer-free option, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube. What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before you plan to launch. See YouTube’s live streaming setup guidance.
- An audio recording and visual that you own or are licensed to use for a YouTube livestream and any replay or archive. Keep the original recording, permission, and license records.
- An encoder, such as OBS, and a computer, power supply, and internet connection that can remain available for as long as you operate the stream.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may result in a placeholder image, interruption, or termination. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and resolve permissions before going live.
Prepare the campfire audio and visual
Use an original or cleared recording
You can record a fire yourself or use material whose license explicitly permits the planned livestream and replay use. A portable audio recorder is optional, not a YouTube requirement. Check the recording for voices, handling noise, sudden peaks, silence, and abrupt edits. Listen through the point where the loop restarts; a click or change in ambience can be distracting when repeated for hours.
Choose a visual you can use
Pair the sound with a still image, a seamless looped fire video, or a live camera shot. Confirm rights for the visual as well as the audio. If using video, check that its loop boundary does not jump noticeably. Keep the picture and sound sources together in the encoder scene so the broadcast includes both.

Enable YouTube Live and create the broadcast
- Verify your channel and check that it has no active live-stream restriction. YouTube’s eligibility guidance specifies no live restriction in the previous 90 days.
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a live stream using the encoder workflow. If this is your channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Keep Live Control Room open for the stream preview, messages, and health indicators. YouTube’s encoder setup information is at YouTube Help: encoder setup.
Set up a looping scene in OBS
- Install and open OBS, then create a scene for the campfire broadcast.
- Add your visual source, such as an image, a video file, or a camera. Confirm it fills the intended frame and that its rights permit the use.
- For a single local audio or video asset, add a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. OBS documents local audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV, and video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM.
- For a playlist, add OBS’s VLC Video Source, select the files, and check the loop-playlist setting. OBS enables Loop Playlist by default for this source.
- Check the audio mixer while the source plays. Verify that the meter moves, the sound is audible at a comfortable level, and no other desktop or microphone audio is being included unintentionally.

Connect OBS and choose stream settings
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the server and stream key from Live Control Room. Prefer RTMPS when the encoder supports it; YouTube recommends the secure RTMPS option.
- In Settings > Output, choose a constant bitrate (CBR) video encoder and set a keyframe interval of 2 seconds. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Choose resolution and bitrate according to your upload capacity. YouTube lists 10 Mbps as its recommended H.264 video bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps; this is an encoder recommendation, not a guaranteed minimum connection speed or a requirement for every stream.
- For ordinary stereo ambience, YouTube’s advanced settings recommend 44.1 kHz audio sampling and 128 kbps audio. Use AAC or MP3 audio and check the result in the preview.
- Start with a modest video resolution if the picture is static or moves slowly. More video bitrate is not automatically better if your upload connection cannot sustain it.

Test, publish, and monitor
- Run a private or unlisted test first if that suits your channel workflow. Include representative audio and movement in the video, not just a silent static preview.
- Listen for silence, clipping, unwanted sounds, and a jarring transition at the loop point. Check that both audio and video reach the YouTube preview.
- Review YouTube’s stream health messages before publishing. Once live, keep an eye on them and listen to the broadcast from a separate device where practical.
- For a local setup, periodically check the source file, OBS, power, and network. Decide in advance who will restart the encoder after a crash or connection outage; continuous operation is not guaranteed by YouTube or by an ordinary home computer.
YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the event. Its guidance says tests should include audio and movement similar to the planned stream. See YouTube’s encoder testing guidance.

Choose a local encoder or a cloud service
OBS gives you direct control over scenes and locally stored loops, but depends on the computer, power, and connection staying available. A cloud encoder can keep uploaded media running without relying on a home computer. Compare options by recovery after an outage, how easily you can change the media, monitoring and restart controls, quality settings, and recurring cost. YouTube’s encoder guide lists cloud services intended for continuous pre-recorded streaming; that listing is not an endorsement or a guarantee of any provider’s uptime.

Troubleshooting common problems
YouTube Live is not available yet
Confirm channel verification and check for live-stream restrictions. For a first activation, allow up to 24 hours; do not wait until the planned broadcast time to enable it.

The preview has no sound or picture
In OBS, confirm the correct media file is selected, the source is visible and unmuted, and the audio meter responds. Check that the encoder is sending both audio and video and that Live Control Room is connected to the intended stream key.
The broadcast buffers or loses health
Reduce resolution or video bitrate to a level the upload connection can sustain, then test again. Check for competing uploads, unstable Wi-Fi, or power-saving settings that interrupt the computer. YouTube’s recommended bitrate is not a promise that a particular connection can sustain it.
The loop has a gap, click, or visible jump
Inspect the asset transition locally and trim or replace the file if needed. For playlists, confirm the intended files and loop-playlist setting are active. Check the audio level and visual framing again in the live preview.

Review the notice and remove or replace the matched content unless you have the necessary rights. If you are licensed to use a third-party item, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID; a license alone may not prevent an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.
The stream stops after a computer or network failure
With OBS, restore power and the network, reopen the scene, confirm the file is available, then reconnect using the active stream key and check Live Control Room. YouTube describes 24/7 feeds as broadcasts that can remain live while another broadcast is created from the same stream, but this does not guarantee automatic recovery from an outage. A cloud service such as StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
