To run a 24/7 YouTube jazz café stream, loop a playlist of music you have permission to stream, pair it with a licensed still image or other visual, and send the combined audio-video feed to a YouTube Live broadcast through an encoder such as OBS. The playlist alone is not a live stream: the encoder must keep sending the feed, and your playback, network, encoder and YouTube ingestion all need to keep working. YouTube supports 24/7 broadcast scenarios, but that is not a promise of uninterrupted uptime.
Understand the pieces before you build
YouTube Live has two related parts: a broadcast, which is the viewer-facing event or video, and a stream, which is the incoming feed and its settings. Your playlist supplies program audio; an encoder combines it with video and transmits it to YouTube. Google describes this separation in its YouTube Live Streaming API overview.
- Playlist: the audio recordings played in sequence. Make sure playback does not stop when an individual file ends.
- Visual: a still image or another video source that you are licensed to use. A YouTube live feed is audio-video, even when the channel is primarily a radio stream.
- Encoder: software or a hosted service that sends the audio-video feed to YouTube.
- Broadcast: the YouTube Live event viewers watch. Its scheduling and stream-health status are managed through YouTube’s live tools.
A continuous stream is an operating setup, not a playlist setting. Decide who will notice an interruption and restart playback or the encoder before you launch.

Do not build the schedule around the assumption that music is safe because it is old, described as royalty-free, or licensed in a general sense. Rights can differ between the composition and a particular recording, between territories, and between uses such as on-demand playback and a live YouTube stream. The available YouTube policy does not establish the rights status of any specific track or license; check with the relevant rights holders for your catalog and intended territories, and keep written permission.

YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party matches. Its copyright guidance for live streams says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and, if matched content continues, interrupt or terminate the broadcast.
A license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption. YouTube instructs streamers with licensed content to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the owner’s Content ID allowlist. Confirm that allowlisting is in place before going public. YouTube distinguishes interruptions during a live stream from Content ID claims on an archived live stream, which are made after the stream ends if you choose to archive it.

Prepare the YouTube channel and broadcast
- Verify the account and enable live streaming. Complete the requirements shown in YouTube Studio. Google’s Live Streaming Guide recommends enabling live streaming in advance and testing before the planned launch. Account-specific eligibility or activation timing should be checked in Studio rather than assumed.
- Create or schedule a live broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live, then use the Live Control Room to schedule or configure the broadcast. YouTube’s current labels can change, so follow the controls shown in your account.
- Choose the encoder connection details. Use the stream settings provided by YouTube. Treat the stream key as a secret: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it, include it in a public screenshot, or paste it into an untrusted service.
- Make a private test broadcast. Google recommends testing the complete setup privately. Confirm the correct audio and visual appear, music transitions work, and the stream remains healthy long enough to expose playback or connection problems.
Build a looping jazz café scene in OBS
OBS is a desktop software option documented by the OBS Project for streaming to YouTube. The precise OBS and YouTube Studio labels may differ by version; use the current controls in your installed application and Live Control Room.
- Create a scene. In OBS, add an image source for a still café visual, or another video source you have the right to use. Set its framing so it fills the output canvas without unintended borders.
- Add the playlist audio. Add the playback source or application output that plays your audio playlist, and configure it to repeat continuously. The playlist or playback tool is an implementation choice, not a YouTube requirement. Verify that it advances from one track to the next without silence, a dialog box, or a stopped player ending the program.
- Set the output format. Choose a resolution and frame rate suitable for the visual and your upload connection. For a static image, a modest frame rate can reduce unnecessary encoding work; YouTube’s cited materials do not prescribe a jazz-radio-specific resolution, bitrate, or frame rate. Avoid selecting settings your computer or sustained upload cannot reliably handle.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Follow the OBS Project’s YouTube setup guide and the current YouTube Studio interface. Depending on the workflow presented, connect the account or enter the server and stream key from YouTube. Keep the key private.
- Start with a private test. Start streaming from OBS, check the preview and stream health in YouTube’s Live Control Room, and listen to the viewer-facing output. Check levels, track transitions, visual framing and whether the feed continues after a source file ends.
- Schedule or start the public broadcast. Once the private test is satisfactory and rights and allowlisting are settled, use the Live Control Room to schedule or make the broadcast public. Keep OBS and the playback environment running for the duration of the stream.
Google documents RTMPS as a secure ingestion route and describes it as a good choice for most ordinary content where low latency is useful. Its RTMPS delivery guide is relevant when configuring an encoder that exposes connection protocol settings. HLS is another supported route for compatible encoders, but it has higher latency and additional segment and playlist requirements; YouTube’s HLS setup guide specifies segment durations of 1–4 seconds. For a basic café-radio setup, HLS is not necessary unless your encoder workflow calls for it.

Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Keep the stream running and recover deliberately
A local OBS setup relies on the computer, playback source, power and internet connection staying available. YouTube exposes stream status and health information through its live tools and API, but detailed automatic restart behavior depends on the encoder and playback setup.
- Keep the Live Control Room accessible so you can see health warnings and whether YouTube is receiving a feed.
- Know where OBS and playback logs or status indicators are, and decide who is responsible for responding to an alert.
- Test what happens when a track ends, the playlist reaches its end, the playback application closes, or OBS is restarted.
- Plan how to reconnect the encoder and resume the intended program after a power or network interruption.
- Check the broadcast after launch rather than treating a successful start as proof that the feed will continue indefinitely.
YouTube’s LiveStreams resource documentation describes stream configuration, status and health information. It does not make a particular OBS or VPS arrangement continuously available by itself.

Choose local OBS or a hosted encoder setup
| Approach | What it changes | What you must manage |
|---|---|---|
| OBS on a local computer | Offers local control and a documented desktop workflow. | The computer, playback, power and internet connection must remain available; you are responsible for responding to failures. OBS Project provides a YouTube setup guide, but no specific computer model or uninterrupted-runtime result is established here. |
| FFmpeg automation on a VPS | Can automate playback and restart workflows on a remotely hosted server, with more configuration flexibility. | You need to administer the server, configure the media and encoder workflow, and handle recurring hosting costs and recovery. A RadioTech Studio guide published May 29, 2026 describes an example workflow; it is not a YouTube requirement or an independent evaluation. |
Choose based on the maintenance you are willing to do and who will recover the stream when it fails. A dedicated computer is one possible local setup, but YouTube does not require a mini PC or prescribe a hardware model; choose hardware for the encoder and workload you actually use.
Or let it run in the cloud

Troubleshoot common interruptions
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube shows a placeholder or interrupts the stream | A third-party content match, including music in the playlist. | Review YouTube’s copyright notice and address the specific track or recording with the rights holder. If you have a license, confirm the channel has been added to the owner’s Content ID allowlist. |
| The broadcast starts but the audio stops between tracks | The player reached the end of a file or playlist, playback stopped, or the selected source changed. | Test playlist repeat and transitions privately. Confirm the intended playback source remains active and audible in the encoder. |
| YouTube does not receive a feed | The encoder is not running or its connection details do not match the stream configured in YouTube. | Check the encoder connection, selected broadcast, server details and stream key in the current YouTube Studio and encoder interfaces. Replace a key if it may have been exposed. |
| The stream becomes unhealthy or disconnects | The encoder, network, computer or hosted server may have stopped sending a stable feed. | Inspect YouTube’s stream-health information and encoder status; verify the connection and playback process, then restart the affected component using your recovery plan. |
| The stream works privately but not reliably over time | A short test may not reveal playlist-end behavior, a later playback failure or a sustained power/network issue. | Extend the private test, verify repeat behavior, and decide who will monitor and respond during the public stream. |
