To run a 24/7 Telugu bhakti stream with FFmpeg, prepare media you have permission to broadcast, create a YouTube stream in Live Control Room, send the media to YouTube’s ingest URL with FFmpeg, and keep the encoder on a reliable, always-connected host. Then monitor the stream in YouTube Studio—not just the FFmpeg process. A continuously running encoder does not guarantee that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream, that viewers can watch it, or that it can be monetized.
What you need before you start
- A playlist of Telugu bhajans or other devotional audio, plus any video or artwork you plan to show.
- Rights that cover the recordings and compositions for live transmission in the territories you serve, and for archiving if you intend to keep a replay.
- A YouTube channel able to create a live stream, and the stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room.
- A host that can remain powered, connected to the internet, and running FFmpeg continuously.
- A plan for process restarts, end-to-end stream checks, copyright interruptions, and stream archives.
FFmpeg is the encoder and publisher: it reads media and sends it to a streaming endpoint. YouTube supplies that endpoint and the stream key. FFmpeg’s documentation illustrates the basic RTMP pattern as ffmpeg -re -i myfile -f flv rtmp://myserver/live/mystream (FFmpeg Protocols Documentation). That is a generic example, not a complete command for your playlist or a ready-made YouTube configuration.
Prepare the playlist and clear the rights
Check both the composition and the recording
A devotional song may involve separate rights in the underlying composition and in the particular recording. Permission to use one does not necessarily grant permission to use the other. Confirm that your permissions cover the intended territories, live transmission, and any archive or video-on-demand use. Keep copies of licenses and correspondence where you can retrieve them.
YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions make the provider responsible for having the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, public performance licenses, and other royalty participants. This does not establish whether a particular bhajan is public domain or whether a particular license is sufficient; check the actual rights for your material and use.

Make the media repeatable
Arrange the audio and visuals into files or a playlist that FFmpeg can read in the intended order. Check that every file opens and plays through, and decide what should appear when a track ends or a visual changes. A playlist that contains a damaged or unavailable file can disrupt the sequence even if the streaming connection is still active. The exact playlist syntax and FFmpeg options depend on your installed FFmpeg build and media formats.
Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room.
- Create or select the live stream and copy the server URL and stream key shown for it.
- In your encoder configuration, enter the URL and key as separate values according to the interface or command you use. Do not paste the key into a public script repository, public documentation, or logs.
- If you want an encrypted ingest connection, retrieve the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room. YouTube notes that the standard RTMP URL may be shown by default; use the RTMPS endpoint provided for the selected stream (Encrypt your stream using RTMPS).
- Start the encoder, then check the preview and stream status in Live Control Room before treating the stream as live and healthy. YouTube’s encoder workflow calls for verifying the preview there (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to publish to your stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.

Send media with FFmpeg
The generic FFmpeg documentation example uses -re to read input in real time and -f flv for RTMP output. For YouTube, use the ingest URL and protocol YouTube gives you, and adapt input, playlist handling, codecs, and any reconnect behavior to your media and installed FFmpeg build. Do not copy the generic example unchanged: its sample server address is not YouTube’s endpoint, and it does not include your stream key or define a playlist.
Keep the stream key out of shared code and diagnostic output. If the method you use puts secrets directly in a command line or logs, choose a more secure configuration approach supported by your environment and limit access to the host. There is no single complete command that can be specified safely without knowing your actual playlist format, selected YouTube endpoint, codecs, and FFmpeg build.

Keep the stream running and verify it reaches YouTube
Use an always-on host
FFmpeg only streams while its host is powered and connected. You can run it on a local computer you leave on or on a cloud server such as a VPS. A local computer may avoid a separate hosting service but depends on home power, cooling, connectivity, and maintenance. A VPS avoids relying on a home computer but brings service cost, configuration, and remote administration. There is no universally best host or substantiated minimum hardware specification here; compare total cost, upload reliability, encoding workload, supervision, and your ability to recover the service.
Supervise and check both ends
Configure a process supervisor to restart FFmpeg after a failure, and monitor the host as well as YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and status. A local process can still be running while the platform is not receiving a usable stream. A community Ubuntu VPS setup describes using systemd for restarts and reports a freeze that was not apparent from local process health; that is an anecdote, not a general failure rate or a validated recipe (24/7 YouTube Stream — Setup & Ops Notes).

- Check that FFmpeg is still running and has not exited with an error.
- Check the YouTube preview and status rather than relying only on a process check.
- Confirm the stream key and ingest endpoint still match the stream selected in Studio.
- After any restart or interruption, verify the preview again before assuming viewers are receiving the program.
Plan sessions and archives deliberately
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is a platform threshold, not a recommended session length. If an automatic archive matters, do not plan one unbroken session beyond that threshold. A channel that needs to remain continuously live may need planned stream sessions and transitions; confirm current Live Control Room behavior before relying on a particular archive workflow (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).

A license may not prevent a live interruption
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt or terminate the stream, and apply consequences for copyright or Community Guidelines strikes. YouTube also says that even when you have licensed third-party music, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid live interruption. A Content ID claim on an archived stream can also arrive after the broadcast ends (Copyright issues with live streams).

Permission does not promise monetization
Copyright clearance and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are different questions. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and require original, authentic material; repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible, and reused-content review is separate from copyright permission (YouTube channel monetization policies). A loop of songs should not be treated as automatically monetizable even if you have music rights. Add meaningful original value where appropriate and check the current policy for your channel.
