Choose how the lessons will play
There are two practical approaches: play local files through OBS Studio, or upload the videos to a cloud service that hosts a pre-recorded playlist. The local method gives you direct control over the OBS scene and files; the cloud method avoids relying on a home computer. Neither should be described as guaranteed uninterrupted operation indefinitely.

Prepare the recorded lessons
Check rights and files
- Use lessons you own or have permission to rebroadcast. A video being available online does not by itself grant permission to stream it.
- Confirm that each file plays correctly from beginning to end, including its audio. Put the lessons in the sequence you want viewers to see.
- Keep a separate copy of important lessons. A live stream is not a substitute for a reliable archive.
Decide whether the stream should repeat
For a finite run, queue each lesson once. For an ongoing study channel, configure the playlist to restart after its last item if your playback method supports looping. Test the end of the final lesson and the transition back to the first before announcing the schedule.
Set up automatic lesson switching in OBS Studio
OBS interface labels and workflows can change between versions, so check the current OBS controls rather than relying on screenshots from older guides. The essential setup is a playlist source that advances through local video files, a YouTube Live encoder connection and a computer that stays available for the entire broadcast.

- Install and open OBS Studio. Create or select the scene you want viewers to see. Add any title, schedule or other overlays you need.
- Add a media playlist source. In the scene’s Sources area, add the available media or playlist source and select the lesson files in playback order. Enable sequential playback or playlist advancement; enable loop/restart if you want the queue to repeat. Confirm the source’s audio is enabled.
- Test transitions locally. Preview playback and verify that one lesson gives way to the next without manual action. Check that the next file is available at its saved location and that the final item behaves as intended.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the broadcast. Use the current YouTube Live server URL and stream key shown there in OBS’s stream settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with viewers.
- Set the broadcast schedule or start time. YouTube supports scheduled live streams, but scheduling the event is separate from supplying the video. Start the encoder in OBS and confirm YouTube receives the signal and the audience-facing broadcast actually transitions live.
- Keep the local setup running. Leave OBS, the lesson files and the computer available, with reliable power and internet. Monitor the stream and have a way to restart the encoder if the connection or application fails.
Schedule, archive and replay considerations
A scheduled broadcast does not make the playlist self-sustaining: OBS still has to supply the media. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its DVR guidance warns that rewind can be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including streams beyond 12 hours. If viewers must be able to watch the complete lesson sequence later, keep a separate recording or publish the lessons individually as videos.

OneStream Live’s help page describes a separate 24/7 feature for YouTube. Its page, last updated September 3, 2026, says the feature requires Enterprise and has a maximum duration of 30 days. Those are OneStream’s stated terms; confirm current plan availability and limitations directly before purchase.
Troubleshoot common failures
The lesson does not advance
- Check that the source is a playlist or is configured to advance, rather than a single video source that stops at the end.
- Verify the file order and playback settings, then test transitions in OBS before going live.
YouTube does not show the live feed
- Check that OBS is sending to the current server URL and stream key displayed for the selected YouTube broadcast.
- Confirm the encoder is started and YouTube Live Control Room is receiving its signal. A scheduled event alone does not provide video.
- If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS with the new key.
The stream stops during the run
- For a local setup, check that the computer did not sleep or shut down, OBS is still running, files remain accessible, and power and internet are available.
- Restart the encoder if needed and verify that the audience-facing stream is live again. Do not assume the service or platform will resume the playlist without checking.
Viewers cannot rewind or find a complete replay
Very long streams can have limited DVR rewind, and YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours. Keep a separate recording or distribute individual lesson videos when complete replay matters.
