To run a 24/7 snowstorm ambience stream on YouTube, prepare audio and visuals you own or are licensed to broadcast, send them through a continuously running encoder such as OBS Studio, and monitor the stream after it starts. YouTube does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast or a complete replay for a stream lasting a full day, so plan for rights, connection failures, and archiving before going live.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A snowstorm audio track and visual you created or have permission to use for both live transmission and any replay.
- An encoder, such as OBS Studio, plus a computer, power, and internet connection capable of sustaining the stream.
- A YouTube stream created in Live Control Room and its private stream key.
A 24/7 stream is a continuous operation, not merely a video set to repeat. The encoder, media source, power, and network must keep working, and someone should check the broadcast after a restart or interruption.
1. Clear the audio and visual rights
Use a recording you made, or a license that explicitly permits YouTube livestream transmission and archived playback. Keep license records, receipts, project files, and source notes. Do not assume a track is safe because it is labeled “copyright-free”; check the actual terms and permitted uses.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, including copyrighted material. A match can interrupt or terminate a live broadcast, and an archive may receive a Content ID claim after the stream ends. If you have a license but a match still occurs, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its allowlist. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its Terms of Service.

For sleep listening, audition the full audio loop. Listen for clicks, abrupt edits, sudden volume peaks, intrusive voiceovers, or a noticeable drop at the loop boundary. These are production checks, not YouTube requirements or evidence of a sleep or health benefit.
2. Build and test the OBS scene
OBS can combine a visual and media source into a scene and send it to YouTube. Its guide covers selecting a streaming service, entering a stream key, adding scenes and sources, and testing: OBS streaming setup. The guide does not establish a specific 24/7 looping recipe, so confirm that your chosen media source behaves as intended before relying on it for a long broadcast.

- Prepare the scene: Add your snowstorm visual and audio source. A still image or slow-moving visual is a creative option; it is not a YouTube requirement.
- Confirm audio routing: Check OBS meters while the recording plays, then monitor the encoded output for silence, clipping, or unexpected desktop audio.
- Run a representative test: Test the same audio and visual behavior you plan to stream. Check playback on another device as well as the OBS preview.
- Check resilience: Consider what happens if OBS, the computer, or the network restarts. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring quality, but does not promise uninterrupted uptime or automatic recovery from local failures.
3. Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Create or select a stream. Choose the stream’s visibility and other settings that fit your test or public broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the corresponding streaming settings in OBS. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
- Start streaming from OBS. Wait for YouTube’s preview, check the stream health indicator, and confirm the intended picture and sound before making the stream public or sharing its watch page.
YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. It recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension to RTMP, for delivery. See YouTube’s encoder setup and live-stream guidance.
4. Choose stable video and audio settings
Set the output for a mode your encoder and upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); and up to 60 fps. These are platform guidance, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection will remain stable. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings for the full bitrate table for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate.

For a largely still ambience scene, a higher frame rate or resolution may add encoding and upload demand without improving the experience enough to justify it. Choose a reliable mode and verify the result in playback.
5. Monitor the broadcast and plan recovery
After going live, check Live Control Room’s stream health and listen to the public playback from another device. Recheck after any network or encoder restart; a local encoder that stops sending data will not keep the broadcast alive on its own. YouTube recommends monitoring stream quality and testing representative audio and movement in its encoder guidance.

- Audio drops or silence: Confirm the intended source is active, its audio reaches the encoder, and the playback device is not muted.
- Clipping or harsh peaks: Lower the source or encoder audio level and test again from the encoded preview.
- Buffering or unstable stream health: Reduce the output bitrate or video mode, check the upload connection, and test again with headroom.
- Stream does not appear in preview: Recheck the stream URL and key in OBS, confirm the encoder is sending, and verify the stream selected in Live Control Room.
- Copyright interruption: Stop using the matched material unless you have the necessary rights; for a licensed work, contact the rights owner about allowlisting your channel.
6. Understand replay and monetization limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That rule does not promise that a 24-hour broadcast will appear as one complete replay. If a replay matters, plan shorter sessions or a separate archive workflow, and verify current platform behavior before promising viewers a complete VOD. The limit is described in YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance.

Monetization is not automatic. You must be in the YouTube Partner Program to monetize through the live-stream flow, and YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams. The platform expects original, authentic work; repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Copyright permission does not by itself settle reused-content eligibility. Original field recordings, sound design, and visual work can make your creative contribution clearer, but do not guarantee approval.
