You can turn MP4 music files into a continuous YouTube live stream by sending them through an encoder to a YouTube live event. The files are the source material; the encoder creates and sends the live audio-video feed. Before you start, enable live streaming on your channel, confirm the recordings are cleared for this use, and decide how you will keep the encoder running and preserve a replay.
What you need for a continuous music stream
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says first-time live access can take up to 24 hours to become available after you enable it. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide explains channel eligibility.
- MP4 files you have permission to stream, including the sound recordings and performances in them.
- An encoder that can take the files as a continuous audio-video source and send a live feed to YouTube.
- A computer and internet connection capable of running that encoder continuously, unless you use a cloud service instead.
- A plan for interruptions and for saving a replay if you need one.
YouTube describes encoder-based streaming as a common workflow for events such as concerts. The official setup guidance does not specify a universal minimum computer, operating system, upload speed, or application setting for looping MP4s around the clock. Check the requirements and current YouTube configuration for the encoder you choose rather than relying on a generic hardware or bitrate recommendation.
Prepare your channel and live event
Enable live streaming ahead of time
Verify the channel and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio before the planned broadcast. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling live streams at least 24 hours before a first music-channel broadcast, so do not leave channel setup until the start time. Check that the feature is active and that your channel has no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.

In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and use its stream details to connect your encoder. Copy the stream key into the encoder’s YouTube connection settings, keeping the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your event. YouTube’s labels and encoder setup steps can change, so follow the current instructions shown in Studio and in your chosen encoder. The cited YouTube guidance establishes the encoder workflow but does not document a particular application’s menus or MP4-looping controls.

Prepare MP4s for the encoder
Check video and audio compatibility
An MP4 file is a container, not a guarantee that its contents match every live-ingest workflow. Google’s DASH ingestion documentation lists MP4 containing H.264 video and AAC audio among supported formats. The live feed still has to meet the protocol’s segment and timing requirements; the encoder handles those when configured for YouTube’s current ingest method.
YouTube’s HLS ingestion documentation describes a different workflow, including muxed M2TS segments and AAC audio. Do not assume that because your source is an MP4, the live feed itself uses MP4 segments or HLS. Choose the protocol supported by your encoder and follow its YouTube-specific configuration.

Build a continuous program
Load the MP4s into an encoder capable of keeping a playlist or source running continuously, then arrange the sequence you want viewers to hear. Confirm that the encoder will continue to the next file or repeat the playlist rather than stopping after one playback. Exact loop and playlist controls differ by application; the official YouTube sources do not establish a specific application feature or menu path.
Preview the output before going live. Check that picture and sound are present, playback advances as expected, and the feed is reaching the intended YouTube event. If your program is audio-led, use a suitable visual—such as artwork you have permission to use—instead of assuming YouTube will create one for you.

Clear the rights for every recording
Do not treat a YouTube live stream as exempt from music copyright rules. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may replace the live image, interrupt the stream, or terminate it when protected material is detected. A licence from a rights holder does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption: YouTube says the owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
For licensed material, coordinate with the label, distributor, or other relevant rights holder before broadcasting, and ask whether your channel must be allowlisted. YouTube for Artists specifically recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream.

Continuous streaming versus shorter events
A single stream can provide uninterrupted programming while its encoder stays connected, but a long broadcast creates a replay risk. Shorter scheduled events require more operator intervention and may interrupt the channel’s continuity, but they avoid relying on one exceptionally long archive. Choose based on whether uninterrupted listening or a reliably complete replay matters more.

YouTube may not archive a full 24/7 stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete replay. If you need a replay, keep a local recording or make shorter broadcasts that fit YouTube’s stated archive guidance. YouTube also recommends a local archive backup. Read YouTube’s archive live streams guidance before choosing your schedule.
Recover from a dropped connection
Monitor both the encoder and the live event, especially when starting a new setup. If YouTube drops the feed, check the encoder’s connection status and the event’s stream health, then reconnect using the same event and stream key if they remain active. Confirm the playlist has resumed and that viewers can hear and see the program again. Do not assume a long stream will automatically resume or archive correctly without checking.
