To loop a restaurant promo as a YouTube livestream, play the approved video through an encoder such as OBS and send that feed to YouTube Live. In OBS, use a looping Media Source for one video or a looping VLC playlist for several. YouTube’s regular watch-page Loop control only repeats playback for viewers; it does not create a livestream. OBS explains its Media Source and playlist options, while YouTube documents ordinary video and playlist looping.
Choose the right kind of loop
If you want a prerecorded promo to appear as a live broadcast, use an encoder workflow: OBS plays the file or playlist and sends the output to YouTube Live. A viewer-side YouTube loop repeats a video or playlist on its watch page, but does not make it live.
- One promo video: In OBS, add a Media Source and enable Loop.
- Several promos in sequence: Add a VLC Video source, arrange the files in a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for the VLC source to be available.
OBS Media Sources documentation describes these controls. The steps below cover the encoder method.
Prepare the Kannada promo and confirm channel eligibility
Check the video and its claims
Use the franchise-approved video, graphics, offer details, and music. Make sure the aspect ratio and audio are suitable for the intended viewing context. Confirm that menu items, prices, dates, and promotional claims are still accurate before broadcasting; an outdated offer may continue appearing for as long as the file is looped.

If the audience is Kannada-speaking, use Kannada copy where appropriate. Have the franchise or channel owner confirm the script, spelling, local phrasing, approved brand names, and offer terms. There is no single Kannada variety or franchise terminology established for every location.
Check live-stream access in advance
YouTube requires a verified channel without live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until just before a planned opening. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and encoder setup guidance.
Create the looping scene in OBS
Loop one video file
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the restaurant promo.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add Media Source.
- Choose the local, franchise-approved video file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties and confirm the source.
- Check the scene preview for framing, playback, and audio.
Loop a sequence of promos
- Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS’s VLC Video source depends on it.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add VLC Video.
- Add the approved promo files in the order they should play.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then check the preview and audio across the sequence.
For either setup, test the transition at the end of a file and confirm the first seconds of playback restart as expected. OBS documents the source and loop settings in its Media Sources guide.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream, then retrieve its stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the stream key (or use the available connection option for the account, if shown). If configuring the server manually, use the stream URL supplied by YouTube.
- Protect the stream key like a password. YouTube uses it to identify where the encoder sends the feed and to accept that feed; do not share it with people who should not control the stream.
- Apply the settings and return to the main OBS window. Start sending the encoder feed, then check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room before starting the public event.
Labels and connection options can vary as YouTube and OBS update their interfaces. Follow the URL and key shown for the particular stream in Studio rather than reusing a key or server address from an old setup. See YouTube’s encoder instructions and live stream settings help.
Set encoder quality to match the connection
YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS for encoder ingestion and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, recommends CBR bitrate encoding, supports frame rates up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection can sustain every resolution and frame rate.
Choose a resolution and bitrate from YouTube’s current guidance that the actual upload connection can handle. Test upload speed and stream health; do not assume a single bitrate is suitable for every site or network. Start with quality appropriate to the connection, then verify the live preview and stability before using the stream for customers. The resolution-specific recommendations are listed in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guide.

Test the broadcast and decide what happens to its archive
Run a realistic test
- Test with representative motion, transitions, and audio rather than a static screen alone.
- Check that the stream preview appears correctly and that the intended audience can access the event from the channel or watch page and on mobile.
- Monitor stream health and listen for audio problems while checking the picture.
- Use a stable connection. Ethernet can be considered where practical, but it is not a requirement; YouTube’s tips include an Ethernet-disconnection exercise as a way to test encoder failover.
YouTube recommends testing and monitoring before and during a live stream; see its live-streaming tips.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsReview the recorded stream
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. After the event, review the archive and choose whether it should be public, unlisted, or private. Also check whether the promo and offers shown in the archived recording are still appropriate to leave available. Stream and archive controls are described in Manage live stream settings and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Confirm content rights and paid-promotion disclosure
The channel operator must have the necessary rights for everything in the broadcast, including music. YouTube’s Livestream Terms and Conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Confirm that the rights cover the actual content, use, and territory; a franchise’s permission to use a promo file should not be assumed to settle every music-licensing question.

YouTube’s branded-content policy applies to livestreams. It defines branded content in terms of content influenced by a brand partner in exchange for something of value. If the franchise arrangement meets that definition, declare paid promotion in Studio and make the disclosure clear and prominent. Whether a particular restaurant’s own promotional broadcast qualifies depends on the actual agreement and exchange of value; check with the franchise or channel owner.

The video plays on YouTube but is not live
Cause: The watch-page Loop control repeats playback for viewers; it does not send an encoder feed. Fix: Set up the looping source in OBS, connect OBS to YouTube with the stream URL and key, and send the encoder feed.
The promo stops at the end instead of restarting
Cause: Loop is off, the wrong source is in the scene, or a playlist is not configured to repeat. Fix: For one file, check Media Source > Loop. For multiple files, check VLC Video > Loop Playlist and confirm VLC is installed.

YouTube does not show an incoming preview
Cause: The encoder may not be sending, or the stream URL or key may not match the selected event. Fix: Confirm OBS is sending the feed and recheck the current event’s URL and key in Live Control Room and OBS. Treat the key as a credential; replace it through the platform controls if it has been exposed.
The stream buffers or its health is poor
Cause: The selected quality may exceed the upload connection’s capacity, or the connection may be unstable. Fix: Test upload speed, select settings that fit the measured connection, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health status. Check YouTube’s resolution and bitrate recommendations.
The broadcast cannot be enabled
Cause: The channel may not meet live-stream eligibility requirements, may have a recent restriction, or first-time enablement may still be processing. Fix: Check channel verification and live-stream status early; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.

The archive contains an expired offer or unexpected visibility
Cause: The archived stream retains the promo content, and its visibility depends on stream settings. Fix: Review the archive after streaming, update its visibility as needed, and replace or stop using promo material when its offer expires.
