To loop a prerecorded product demo on YouTube Live, add it to an OBS Media Source and enable Loop. For a sequence of demos, add the clips to an OBS VLC Video playlist and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to YouTube Live with your stream URL and key, check the preview, and start the broadcast.
Choose the right OBS source
| Need | OBS source | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat one demo video | Media Source | Built into OBS. Select a local file and enable Loop in its properties. |
| Repeat several clips in sequence | VLC Video | Requires VLC to be installed. Add the clips to its playlist and enable Loop Playlist; shuffle is off by default, so clips stay in order unless you change it. |
OBS Media Source supports MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM files. For VLC Video with 64-bit OBS, install the 64-bit version of VLC. The OBS Media Sources documentation describes the Loop property as restarting the file after playback completes: OBS Media Sources.
Prepare the demo video and scene
- Check the content. Confirm that you have the rights to the product footage, music, graphics, and claims you plan to stream. A file playing correctly in OBS does not establish that you have permission to use its contents.
- Create or open a scene. In OBS, select a scene or create one, then use the Sources panel to add a Media Source.
- Select the file and loop it. In the Media Source properties, choose the local video file and turn on Loop. OBS also documents Restart playback when source becomes active as enabled by default; this can matter if you switch scenes and return to the source.
- For multiple clips, add VLC Video instead. Add a VLC Video source, add your files to its playlist in the desired order, and leave Loop Playlist enabled. Check that shuffle is off if you want a fixed sequence.
- Check the picture and sound. Fit or crop the source in the scene as needed. Play it in the OBS preview and confirm that the visible product details are legible and that audio is routed as intended.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the scheduled stream you intend to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a secret: do not show it in a screen recording, tutorial, or public post. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube if that integration is available, or select a custom service and enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the matching fields. Apply the settings.
- Start the encoder from OBS and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the correct scene, picture, and audio before you start the public broadcast or scheduled event.
YouTube’s encoder setup steps are documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. YouTube’s player-side Loop command is different: it repeats a video or playlist for someone watching on YouTube, not the local file being sent from OBS as a live encoder feed. See Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSet encoder quality and bandwidth
Choose settings for the resolution, frame rate, codec, and upload capacity you will actually use. YouTube recommends RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Follow the YouTube encoder settings page for the configuration you select: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
- Example, not a universal preset: YouTube lists H.264 at 1080p30 as 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. Its bitrate guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- Leave upload headroom: YouTube’s streaming tips recommend keeping upload capacity 20% above the stream bitrate. Other devices and network activity can reduce available upload bandwidth.
- Test representative content: A mostly static product shot may behave differently from fast movement, transitions, or detailed close-ups. Test the footage and audio you plan to broadcast, rather than relying only on a still preview.
For YouTube’s general network and encoder guidance, see Streaming tips.
Preflight, start, and end the broadcast
- Check eligibility: YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days to stream.
- Allow setup time: YouTube’s live-streaming tips suggest setting up at least two hours in advance and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. These are planning recommendations, not guarantees of a successful connection.
- Watch the preview and stream health: Before going live, verify the scene and listen for audio. During the broadcast, monitor YouTube’s stream health and the audio/video quality.
- Stop deliberately: End the stream in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; check the current stream behavior and archive settings when planning a longer broadcast.
See YouTube live streaming tips and the encoder setup guide for the current workflow.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
- The video stops instead of repeating: Open the Media Source properties and check that Loop is enabled. For multiple clips, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- VLC Video is missing from the source list: Install VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, use the 64-bit VLC build.
- The clip restarts when you return to a scene: Check the Media Source’s Restart playback when source becomes active setting. OBS documents it as on by default, which can affect playback when the source becomes active again.
- The playlist plays in an unexpected order: Check the playlist order and whether Shuffle Playlist has been enabled. OBS documents shuffle as off by default.
- YouTube shows no picture or the wrong scene: Check the selected OBS scene and source visibility, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting the broadcast.
- The broadcast is unstable or stream health is poor: Check that the selected bitrate fits your available upload capacity, keep YouTube’s recommended headroom, and test again with representative footage. Confirm the encoder settings match the intended codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- The stream key does not work: Recheck that OBS has the URL and key for the same YouTube stream you selected. If you exposed the key publicly, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Viewers do not see a loop option working: OBS must loop the source before it reaches YouTube. The YouTube player’s Loop command affects viewer playback of an existing YouTube video or playlist, not the encoder feed.
