To loop one podcast episode in OBS, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop. To play several episodes in order and repeat them, add a VLC Video Source, install VLC in the same 32-bit or 64-bit architecture as OBS, and enable Loop Playlist while leaving Shuffle Playlist off. Those settings repeat the file or playlist; they do not guarantee a gap-free handoff between separate files.
Choose the right OBS source

OBS documents the repeat behavior for both sources, but does not promise frame-perfect or sample-accurate transitions between independently encoded files. If uninterrupted audio is essential, test the actual episode files and the stream output rather than assuming a loop option removes every transition gap. OBS’s Media Sources documentation describes the relevant controls.
Loop one podcast episode
- In OBS, select the scene where the episode should appear.
- In the Sources dock, click + and add a Media Source. OBS’s Sources Guide explains how sources are added to a scene.
- In the source properties, select the local episode file.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the properties.
- Preview playback through the end and into the restart. Confirm that both the audio and video behave as expected.
The Media Source Loop control replays that file after it completes; it is not a playlist control. OBS describes it as specifying whether the file plays again after playback has completed.

Loop multiple episodes in order
- Install VLC before configuring the source. OBS says VLC must be installed for VLC Video Source to appear. Match its architecture to OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In the OBS scene, click + in the Sources dock and add VLC Video Source.
- In the source properties, add the episode files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Keep Loop Playlist enabled so the source restarts when it runs out of media files.
- Turn off Shuffle Playlist if you want a predictable sequence. OBS lists Loop Playlist as on and Shuffle Playlist as off by default, but check the actual properties before relying on those settings.
- Preview the end of each episode and the transition into the next one, including the last-to-first transition. Then check the resulting stream output before going live.
OBS’s documentation says Loop Playlist restarts the source after it runs out of media files. It does not establish that separate files will hand off without a gap. A short silence, pause, or other discontinuity may depend on the files and playback behavior; inspect your own transitions rather than treating the checkbox as a gapless-playback guarantee.

Can OBS make separate episode files gapless?
The documented OBS controls let you replay one file or restart a playlist. They do not claim to make separate episode files join with frame-perfect video or sample-accurate audio. If your files contain silence at their ends or starts, or if playback visibly pauses at a transition, looping settings alone may not solve it.
- Listen and watch using the actual exported files, not just a playlist of test clips.
- Check every transition, especially the final episode looping back to the first.
- Preview the stream output, since the relevant result is what viewers receive.
- If continuity is critical, consider preparing a single continuous file from the episodes and verifying its joins before adding it as a looping Media Source. The OBS documentation does not prescribe an editing workflow or guarantee that this will remove every playback interruption, so test the finished file.
Optional plugin for playlist management
Media Playlist Source is a third-party OBS plugin alternative to the built-in VLC Video Source; it is not required for the VLC workflow. The plugin author’s update history says version 0.1.3 requires OBS 31 or newer and reports fixes related to playlists not continuing after transitions or when a path repeats. Check the author’s current installation guidance and test compatibility with your OBS build before using it: plugin listing and update history.

Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video Source is missing: install VLC, then reopen or check OBS. Make sure VLC and OBS use the same architecture; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Episodes play in an unexpected order: check the playlist order and turn off Shuffle Playlist.
- The playlist stops after the last episode: check that Loop Playlist is enabled in the VLC Video Source properties.
- A single episode does not repeat: open the Media Source properties and enable Loop.
- There is a pause or gap between episodes: the loop setting repeats media but does not promise gapless transitions. Preview the exact files and stream output; if needed, test a prepared continuous file or a compatible playlist option.
- The plugin playlist fails to continue: confirm compatibility with your OBS version and consult the plugin author’s update history, which identifies OBS 31+ for version 0.1.3.
