To loop one pre-recorded video in OBS, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop. To play several different videos in sequence and repeat them, use a VLC Video source with a playlist and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
Choose the right OBS source

OBS’s regular Media Source handles a single file; its Loop property repeats that file after it finishes. VLC Video is the documented playlist option. OBS describes it as supporting playlists, unlike Media Source. See the OBS Media Sources documentation and the OBS Sources Guide.
Loop one pre-recorded video with Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene where the video should play.
- In the Sources dock, click + and choose Media Source.
- Create a new source or select an existing one, then choose the local video file in its properties.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the properties. The file will play again once playback has completed.
Use this option when the same clip should repeat. It is not the playlist workflow for rotating among different videos.
Loop a playlist of different videos with VLC Video
Install VLC and add a source
- Install VLC Media Player if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source type to appear. OBS specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC; its documentation lists Media Source and VLC Video for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- In OBS, select the target scene. In the Sources dock, click + and choose VLC Video.
- Create the source and add the video files to its playlist in the order you want them to play.
Set looping, order, and visibility
- Keep Loop Playlist enabled so playback starts again with the first item after the last playlist item finishes.
- Turn Shuffle Playlist off to preserve the order you chose; turn it on to randomize playback.
- Choose the source’s Visibility Behaviour to determine what happens when the source is hidden: stop and restart when visible, pause and resume, or continue playing while hidden.
Visibility Behaviour matters when a scene change hides the source. Choose the option that matches whether playback should reset, pause, or continue in the background.

If VLC Video is missing or the playlist does not behave as expected
- VLC Video is not in the source menu: install VLC and restart OBS if needed. Check that VLC and OBS have matching architectures; OBS’s documentation specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- Only one file repeats: confirm you added a VLC Video source and multiple files to its playlist. Media Source’s Loop property repeats a single file.
- The playlist stops after its last item: enable Loop Playlist.
- Items play in an unexpected order: turn off Shuffle Playlist for the listed order, or leave it on if random playback is intended.
- Playback changes when you switch scenes: review Visibility Behaviour and select stop/restart, pause/resume, or continue while hidden as appropriate.
Optional third-party playlist source
A third-party OBS forum listing describes Media Playlist Source as a plugin alternative with playlist editing and file or folder selection. The listing gives OBS Studio 30.0.0 as its minimum version. Its current compatibility and maintenance status are not established here, so check the plugin’s own listing and recent compatibility information before relying on it. For the built-in documented playlist route, use VLC Video.
