You can loop a Fortnite replay on YouTube Live by feeding the local video file to FFmpeg at real-time speed and sending the output to a YouTube encoder stream over RTMPS. You’ll need a replay file that FFmpeg can read, an enabled YouTube live-streaming account, the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, and enough upload bandwidth for the selected video settings.
The exact command depends on the codecs in your replay and the encoders available in your FFmpeg build. Use the workflow below to configure and test it before making the stream public. A replay file’s availability does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast its tournament footage, game content, or audio.
Before you start: check the replay and your channel
Make sure YouTube Live is enabled
First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available after you enable it. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or select an encoder stream. YouTube provides a server URL and stream key for the encoder.
Confirm the file and rights
Have the replay exported or otherwise available as a local video file that FFmpeg can read. The steps here do not cover extracting replays from a particular Fortnite version, and compatibility depends on the actual file and your FFmpeg build.

Check the permissions that apply to your file before broadcasting it. Access to an old replay does not automatically establish rights to continuously rebroadcast tournament footage, game content, music, or other audio in it. Check separately for event footage, game material, soundtrack, overlays, and any other included content.
Create a YouTube encoder stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or select an encoder stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to locate the server URL and stream key.
- Keep the stream key private: treat it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room before continuing.
- Use the RTMPS server URL and stream key in FFmpeg’s output destination. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingest.
The stream key authorizes an encoder to send video to your channel. Do not paste it into a public post, share a command containing it, or include it in a screenshot.

Choose output settings that fit the replay and upload connection
Match resolution and bitrate to the source
Do not upscale a low-resolution replay just to select a larger output profile. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends H.264 bitrates of 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps; these values apply to those specific H.264 profiles, not every resolution, frame rate, or codec. Use the corresponding row in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for other profiles.
Use a compatible codec and keyframe interval
YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for video, and AAC or MP3 for audio. It recommends constant bitrate, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a 2-second keyframe interval (not exceeding 4 seconds). The right choice depends on your source file and the encoders supported by the installed FFmpeg build.

Leave bandwidth headroom
Your outgoing video and audio bitrate must fit the available upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom rather than using the full connection capacity. Check the connection you will actually use for the stream; a speed-test result on a different network or at a different time may not reflect sustained upload performance.
Build and test the FFmpeg command
FFmpeg can read a file as input, pace processing in real time, loop input, and mux output for delivery to YouTube. The command below shows the general shape, not a tested command for every file or build. FFmpeg option placement matters, and stream copy is appropriate only when the file’s codecs and properties are compatible with the selected YouTube output settings.

This example encodes H.264 at 8 Mbps and 60 fps, with a 120-frame GOP intended to correspond to a 2-second keyframe interval at that frame rate; it is an illustrative 720p60-style profile, not a recommendation to force every replay to 720p60. Replace the destination with the RTMPS server URL and stream key supplied for your YouTube stream. Do not publish the completed command while it contains your key.

- Watch the Live Control Room preview. Check that video appears, audio is present if expected, and motion plays smoothly.
- Check stream health and sustained upload capacity. YouTube advises continuous monitoring and upload headroom.
- Only after the test behaves as expected, start or switch to the intended public stream.
Set viewer controls and decide how long to run
YouTube’s DVR feature lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume during a live stream. For streams longer than 12 hours, rewind capability may be limited or unavailable. Separately, YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume the same automatic archiving behavior for a longer broadcast. See YouTube’s guidance on DVR on live streams and encoder streams.
If you also record locally, check that the archive is being written and that its size is growing. The replay input and any local recording use storage; an external drive is optional if your existing storage is insufficient.
Troubleshoot common failures
- You cannot start a live stream: Check whether live streaming is enabled for the account. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Verify the RTMPS server URL and stream key in the output destination. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the command.
- FFmpeg rejects an option or encoder: Check the installed FFmpeg version and available encoders, then consult documentation for that build. Option placement and encoder availability can vary.
- Video or audio is missing or incompatible: Inspect the actual input file and confirm its streams and codecs. Adjust stream mapping or transcode as needed; do not assume the replay contains both audio and video or that its codecs match YouTube’s selected profile.
- The stream buffers or loses health: Reduce the output bitrate or profile to fit sustained upload capacity, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Monitor stream health during a representative test.
- The broadcast ends instead of looping: Confirm the input-loop option is accepted by your local FFmpeg build and placed as an input option for the replay file. Validate behavior with a short test before leaving a stream unattended.
- Viewers cannot rewind or an archive is missing: Check the stream duration and the separate YouTube limits: DVR rewind may be limited beyond 12 hours, and the stated automatic archive behavior applies to encoder streams under 12 hours.
