To repeat a church video playlist in OBS, install VLC, add a VLC Video source, load the files in the intended order, and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to YouTube Live separately using the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The documented OBS and YouTube workflow is general; the official pages reviewed do not specify a different India-only setup.

Before you configure the playlist

  • Install VLC on the computer running OBS. OBS’s Media Sources documentation says the VLC Video source depends on VLC libraries and requires VLC to be installed. Match architectures: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
  • Make sure the YouTube channel is eligible to livestream. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance requires channel verification, no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and an account holder who is at least 16. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • Identify each video and music track in the playlist and confirm the church has the rights needed for livestreaming and any archive. YouTube’s terms place responsibility for necessary rights, including music licensing rights, on the provider. What permissions are required depends on the actual media and the church’s existing licenses.

Set up a repeating VLC playlist in OBS

  1. Open the service scene. In OBS, select the scene that should display the playlist.
  2. Add the playlist source. In the Sources panel, select + → VLC Video. If that option is missing, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.
  3. Add and order the files. In the VLC Video source properties, add the video files and arrange them in the sequence the service should play. OBS documents VLC Video as a source that supports a playlist.
  4. Turn on repeat. Enable Loop Playlist. OBS defines this option as controlling whether the source starts over after it runs out of media files.
  5. Choose whether order should vary. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed service sequence. Turn it on only if randomized playback is wanted; shuffle is separate from looping.
  6. Set visibility behavior for scene changes. VLC source properties include behavior choices for when the source is not visible. Choose whether playback should continue, pause, or stop when hidden, according to how the service uses scenes. If switching scenes unexpectedly interrupts playback, review this setting.

For one video rather than several, use OBS’s Media Source and enable its Loop option. VLC Video is the playlist source; the two repeat controls apply to different source types.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to obtain the stream URL and stream key.
  2. In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in the encoder connection fields. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not put it on screen, share it publicly, or include it in screenshots.
  3. Start the encoder feed from OBS, then check the preview in Live Control Room. For a scheduled event, wait for the preview and select Go live in Live Control Room when ready.

Test before the service

  • Run a private or unlisted test with the actual playlist. Confirm that picture and sound play, the files follow the intended order, and the playlist starts over at the end.
  • Check the encoder preview in YouTube Live Control Room before the service begins. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend configuring the encoder in advance and checking the preview.
  • Leave upload-bandwidth headroom. The stream’s total bitrate must fit the available upload connection; monitor the connection and stream quality during the event.
  • Keep the stream key private throughout setup and operation.

Troubleshooting

What you see What to check
VLC Video is not listed in Sources Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being available.
The playlist stops at the last file Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist.
Files play in an unexpected order Check the file order in the source properties and turn off Shuffle Playlist if the sequence must be fixed.
Playback pauses or stops after changing scenes Review the source’s visibility behavior and select whether playback should continue, pause, or stop while hidden.
YouTube shows no encoder preview Confirm the selected stream, stream URL, and stream key in OBS, and verify that OBS is sending the encoder feed. Check the Live Control Room for the preview.
The stream buffers or drops Check the upload connection against the stream’s total bitrate, leave bandwidth headroom, and monitor the connection. YouTube’s streaming tips advise ensuring available upload bandwidth can support the stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a pre-recorded YouTube stream to keep playing without leaving the church’s computer on, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud. The steps are: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not stream from a camera.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
