To loop multiple children’s videos in OBS, add them as a playlist in a VLC Video source and leave Loop Playlist enabled. Install VLC separately first; OBS requires VLC for this source, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS documents a playlist, not a folder that automatically watches for new files, so add and verify every video before going live.
Choose the right OBS source

OBS’s Media Sources guide describes VLC Video as using VLC libraries for extended media support. Its Sources Guide lists VLC Video separately from Media Source and Image Slideshow.
Set up a playlist that loops
- Install VLC. Match its architecture to OBS: the OBS guide specifically notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. VLC Video requires VLC on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Open the scene you want to use for the broadcast. In the Sources panel, select +, then add VLC Video.
- Add the videos to the playlist. Use the file-selection controls in the source properties and check that every intended file appears in the list. OBS documentation does not promise that VLC Video watches a folder for new files automatically.
- Keep Loop Playlist enabled. OBS says this restarts the source after it runs out of media files; the documented default is On. Shuffle Playlist defaults to Off, so playback is ordered unless you change it.
- Check the preview and audio. Confirm the video is visible and use the audio meters in the mixer to check sound. The VLC Video source also has an audio-track setting. OBS recommends checking audio and testing settings before your first stream in its Quick Start Guide.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and set up the broadcast in the Live Control Room. If live streaming has not been enabled on the channel before, YouTube says initial enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the Live Control Room into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the stream key as private: anyone with it may be able to send video to your broadcast.
- Start the stream from OBS, then wait for the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that both video and audio are correct before making the broadcast public.
- Run a test stream before the intended broadcast. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend testing, and OBS also recommends a short test before a first real stream.
- Monitor playback and audio while live. When finished, stop the encoder. YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that archive behavior applies to longer streams. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Children’s videos: rights and audience settings still matter
Getting a playlist to repeat only solves the technical playback task. It does not establish that you have permission to rebroadcast the videos, determine the right audience designation for a particular stream, or establish eligibility for monetization. Check the rights and the applicable YouTube requirements for your channel and content before broadcasting; the OBS setup itself cannot answer those questions.

Troubleshoot common problems
- VLC Video is unavailable or does not play: Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS, particularly 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. Reopen OBS after installation and check the source again.
- The playlist stops after the last file: Open the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist.
- A newly added file is missing: Add it to the playlist in the source properties and verify that it appears there; do not rely on the source to detect changes to a folder.
- Videos play in an unexpected order: Check the playlist order and the Shuffle Playlist setting. Its documented default is Off.
- The stream preview has no sound: Check the source’s audio-track setting and watch the OBS mixer meters. Then retest in the Live Control Room before broadcasting.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Recheck that OBS has the stream URL and key from the correct Live Control Room session, then confirm the preview before going public.
