ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i fireplace.mp4 -t 01:00:00 -c copy looped.mp4This repeats the whole input for one hour without re-encoding. It will not remove a black frame already encoded at the start or end, or make visibly different endpoint images join seamlessly. Inspect the source boundary and choose a trim or edit if the problem is in the footage.
Choose the right kind of loop
“No black frames” can describe three different problems. Identify which one you have before changing the command:
- An encoded black frame: The source itself contains black at its beginning or end. Looping repeats that frame; trim or rebuild the source.
- A visible jump: The last image differs from the first, but neither is black. The loop may still look abrupt. Use footage with compatible endpoints or edit a transition and preview it.
- A gap or freeze: The picture may hold on the last frame at the join. Check the video and audio endpoints, durations, and timestamps; an audio track that runs longer than the video can contribute to this behavior.
A repeated clip is not automatically a seamless loop. The source boundary determines what viewers see unless you edit it.

Repeat the whole clip for a fixed duration
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i fireplace.mp4 -t 01:00:00 -c copy looped.mp4-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely.-stream_loopis an input option, so place it before the corresponding-i.-t 01:00:00limits the output to one hour; change that value for the duration you need.-c copycopies the encoded streams rather than re-encoding them. The source streams and output container must be compatible.
This command is for creating a finite output file. It repeats any black or unwanted frames already at the source boundary. Inspect the resulting join before relying on the file.
Inspect the beginning and end of the source
- Play the original fireplace video and examine its first and last frames, not just the middle of the clip.
- If either endpoint contains black that should not be there, trim or rebuild the source so the repeated section starts and ends on the intended footage.
- If the endpoints are nonblack but visually mismatched, decide whether different source footage or an edited transition will look better.
- Preview the output at the repeat boundary. Check the actual decoded images and whether the picture pauses or jumps there.
A crossfade is one possible edit, not a default fix. On moving flames it can create a brightness dip or ghosted pattern. Review the source and preview the transition before keeping it.

Use the video loop filter when you need frame-level processing
FFmpeg’s video loop filter repeats decoded frames. Its options include the frame-buffer size (size), the starting frame (start), and the repeat count; loop=-1 means repeat indefinitely. Set the section and buffer for the footage you intend to loop.
Because a filter processes decoded media, a filtered output needs to be encoded. This approach is useful when you are selecting or processing frames, but it does not detect and remove a bad black endpoint by itself. If the boundary needs trimming or a transition, use an edit-and-re-encode workflow and inspect the result.

Check audio and timing if the picture freezes
- For a silent fireplace stream, omit audio explicitly with
-anso an unrelated or longer audio track does not affect the output. - If you keep sound, check the audio and video durations and decide how each should repeat or end. Map the intended audio and video streams rather than assuming their lengths match.
- If the symptom is a gap rather than a black image, inspect decoded frames and timestamps at the join before changing the frame rate or adding timestamp-generation options.
The exact diagnosis depends on the source file, its streams, your FFmpeg build, output container, command, and—if you mean a live broadcast—the destination protocol and service. The examples here do not establish a universal live-stream command.
Which FFmpeg approach should you use?

Troubleshoot common loop problems
The black frame appears at every repeat
Likely cause: Black is present at the beginning or end of the source. Fix: Inspect both endpoints and trim or rebuild the source. Changing the loop option alone cannot remove an encoded frame.

The loop has a jump but no black frame
Likely cause: The first and last images do not match. Fix: Choose footage with a more compatible boundary or edit a transition, then preview it. A crossfade may not suit flame footage.
The video pauses at the join
Likely cause: The video and audio durations or endpoints differ, or the streams’ timing is problematic. Fix: Check durations, mappings, and timestamps. If you do not need sound, use -an.

FFmpeg rejects the stream-copy output
Likely cause: The copied streams are not compatible with the chosen output container. Fix: Confirm container compatibility; if the media needs filtering or editing, use a re-encoding workflow instead.
You mean a continuous live broadcast, not a saved file
The output destination determines the protocol and ingest settings, so there is no single live-stream command established here. Use the target service’s current ingest instructions and verify the stream at that destination. FFmpeg can write to a file, pipe, or network stream, but the right setup depends on the endpoint.
