Use Selenium’s tag-name locator with the HTML tag, without angle brackets. In Python, for example, driver.find_element(By.TAG_NAME, "a") finds one anchor element; use the plural method, find_elements, to collect all matching elements.
Find an element by tag name
Pass the tag name as a string to the locator method for your Selenium language binding. Common examples include a, input, button, and tr. The locator matches the element’s HTML tag, not its class, ID, text, or other attributes. See Selenium’s locator strategies.

Find all elements with a tag
Use the plural finder when you want a collection rather than one match. For example, in Python:
inputs = driver.find_elements(By.TAG_NAME, "input")
for input_element in inputs:
print(input_element.get_attribute("name"))The plural method returns an empty list when there are no matches, so you can check the result without treating a missing tag as an exception:

Choose a locator that identifies the right element
A tag-only search can match many nodes. Use it when the tag itself is what you need or when you want a collection. If you need one particular control, prefer a unique, consistently predictable ID when the page provides one. Selenium describes such IDs as the preferred method when available.

If the target is within a known region, narrow the search by finding the parent first and searching inside it:

email = form.find_element(By.NAME, "email")A parent element can act as the search context, which is useful when a page has several forms or repeated tags. See Selenium’s scoped finder examples.

Troubleshoot tag-name searches
- The wrong element is returned:
find_elementreturns one matching element, and a common tag may occur many times. Use a unique locator or first narrow the search to the correct parent. - No element is found: Check that the tag string matches the page’s HTML and omit angle brackets, for example
"button", not"<button>". If usingfind_elements, an empty list means there were no matches at the time of the search. - The locator expression is rejected: Confirm you are using the syntax for your language binding, such as Python’s
By.TAG_NAMEor Java’sBy.tagName.
